April 2010 - Denver Broncos Wiretap
Tebow Impressive In First Minicamp Workouts
Tim Tebow took snaps and threw passes as the three-day minicamp for rookies got under way.
"Oh, it's great because we can go back and watch it," said the ever-excitable Tebow following the 90-minute workout on a chilly morning. "We can look at every play, every throw, go back and see what I did good, what I did bad, what I have to work on and what I need to change."
Some scouts think it could take two years for Tebow to make the transition from combination college quarterback to prototypical pocket passer -- if he ever does. Others argue his success in college, his passion for football and his work ethic will make the transition smoother and shorter.
Broncos coach Josh McDaniels, who made waves when he traded three draft picks to Baltimore to take Tebow with the 25th selection in last week's NFL draft, said it's unrealistic to put a timetable on Tebow's transition.
McDaniels has dismissed the notion of moving Tebow to H-back to start his pro career. And with Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn and maybe even Tom Brandstater ahead of him on the depth chart, many expect Tebow's contributions as a rookie will come in wildcat formations.
All-Pro LT Clady Tears Patella Tendon Playing Basketball
Broncos left tackle Ryan Clady tore his patella tendon playing basketball, according to sources.
Clady has told people that he will be out of action for three months.
The All-Pro was the 12th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.
Tebow Jersey Sales Set New Record
Tim Tebow sold more jerseys during the National Football League?s draft weekend than any other rookie or current player.
While the league doesn?t disclose sales totals, Tebow logged the most jersey orders since 2006, the first year NFLShop.com joined with GSI Commerce Inc. to expand its online store. Tebow?s sales totals eclipsed the previous draft-weekend record of Mark Sanchez, who in 2009 was the first quarterback taken by the Jets with a top-five pick since Joe Namath.
?It?s a pretty substantial difference between him and the next guy,? NFL spokeswoman Joanna Hunter said of Tebow?s jersey sales.
A distant second to Tebow in sales from April 22-25 was defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh of the Detroit Lions.
Quarterback Sam Bradford, who was the No. 1 overall pick of the St. Louis Rams, was third in rookie jersey sales, followed by Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant.
Broncos Sign LB Ayodele
The Broncos have signed inside linebacker Akin Ayodele, a nine-year NFL veteran.
Ayodele was Miami's third-leading tackler in 2009.
McDaniels: Tebow Is A Quarterback
Broncos coach Josh McDaniels sees Tim Tebow as one thing in the NFL: a quarterback.
"He's a quarterback," McDaniels said Saturday afternoon. "He's a quarterback. That's all he's going to do."
Some believe Tebow would be a good H-back because of his sturdy stature and hard running style, while others think he'd be a terrific special teams player because of his desire for the game.
Tebow Eager To Work With McDaniels
Tim Tebow is eager to workout with Broncos coach Josh McDaniels.
Denver drafted Tebow with the 25th pick in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night.
"I can't be more thankful for him deciding to take me," Tebow said at his introductory news conference Friday. "That will be one of my biggest goals is proving him right and making him proud."
McDaniels has a history of tutoring Tom Brady, Matt Cassel and Kyle Orton.
"The work that he's done with the quarterbacks that he's been around, the influence that he's made on them in their careers has been amazing," Tebow said. "I'm just blessed to play for him. I think he's one of the best coaches in the NFL. I firmly believe that.
"I'm drawn to him, too, because he's so passionate. I think that's going to bring out a lot of things about me and my character and my excitement for football and excitement for life," Tebow added. "We were both talking about how we can't sleep we're so excited."
Wilson: Broncos 'Panicked' In Trading Up For Tebow
Bills owner Ralph Wilson says the Broncos "panicked" on Thursday night when they traded back up to take Tim Tebow.
Wilson denied rumors that Buffalo was looking to trade back up into the later half of the first round to take Tebow.
Denver swung a deal with Baltimore to take Tebow at No. 25, giving up second-, third- and fourth-round picks.
"Denver panicked," Wilson said. "He's a good player but we had no interest in taking Tebow. We were not moving up to take Tebow."
