McDaniels Once Went Three Weeks Without Speaking To Brady
During his time with New England, current Denver head coach Josh McDaniels once went three weeks without speaking to quarterback Tom Brady.
The development was reported by the Denver Post on Sunday.
McDaniels was promoted to essentially offensive coordinator following the 2004 season, when Charlie Weis left for Notre Dame.
In their first season together, McDaniels and Brady dealt with the communication breakdown.
"You have to have thick skin," McDaniels said. "Charlie Weis was as good of a mentor and friend to me as I could have asked for. But at the same time, if my skin wasn't thick, he would have crushed me. That's not what I'm trying to do when I get animated. But I guess I don't react well in terms of trying to hold in whatever my emotions are telling me to do. I let it out.
"A lot of people like that. Other people may not. A lot of that has to do with whether you win or lose."
Report: Sanchez Makes Call To Marshall
The Las Vegas Review-Journal is reporting that Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez called wide receiver Brandon Marshall on his birthday earlier this week.
It isn't known whether the call was just out of courtesy or whether Sanchez made a pitch for Marshall to consider playing for the Jets.
New York has had internal discussions about Marshall with Denver reportedly easing off their demand for a No. 1 pick.
McDaniels: Orton Is Denver's Starter
Broncos coach Josh McDaniels says there's "no question" Kyle Orton is the team's starting quarterback.
However, McDaniels is leaving room open for Brady Quinn to compete for the job.
"He's a guy who made the most of an opportunity he was given last year," McDaniels said of Orton.
"Kyle started all but one game for us last year, and he's got the respect of his teammates and coaches and we look forward to him improving. Now Brady's here competing, and as always, players determine their roles by what they do on the field."
Marshall's Price Could Drop After Draft
If the Broncos haven't traded wide receiver Brandon Marshall by the time the NFL Draft comes and goes, we could see his price drop significantly.
ESPN's John Clayton believes that the best value for Marshall currently is a second- and fourth-rounder and possibly a late-round pick in 2011.
However, Denver might have to lower their asking price if Marshall is still on the roster in late April.
Quinn Makes It Clear He Wants To Start
Brady Quinn has only been a member of the Broncos for one full day, but he has made it clear that he'd prefer to start.
"I'll put it this way, I think every quarterback on our roster wants to play," Quinn said. "Believe me, whether it's Tom [Brandstater], Kyle [Orton], or myself, we're all quarterbacks. We're going to be team players first, but we all want to be out there playing."
Denver acquired Quinn from Cleveland on Sunday and Orton has said publicly that he wants to start as well.
Broncos Cut Chris Simms
The Broncos have cut quarterback Chris Simms.
Denver acquired Brady Quinn from Cleveland on Sunday.
Simms was scheduled to make $2.54 million this season.
Orton Still Believes He's Denver's Starter
The Broncos acquired quarterback Brady Quinn from the Browns on Sunday, but Kyle Orton still believes he's the team's starter.
"I have talked to [coach] Josh [McDaniels] and I will keep that private, but I do have total confidence that I'm the guy there," Orton said Sunday night. "Just like every year, I'm going in to try to earn my starting job. I don't think I have anything to fret."
Broncos Acquire Brady Quinn
The Browns traded Brady Quinn to the Broncos on Sunday.
The Browns received RB Peyton Hillis, a sixth-round pick in 2011 and a condition pick in 2012 in return for the 2007 first-round pick.
"I appreciate everything Brady did for us last year and in his three seasons with the Cleveland Browns," Browns coach Eric Mangini said. "He is professional in the way he goes about doing his job and worked extremely hard at every aspect of his game. I wish him the best of success in Denver."
