Jerry Jones: No Evidence Against Ezekiel Elliott

Aug 29, 2017 1:54 PM

Jerry Jones supported Ezekiel Elliott with public comments on Tuesday.

Elliott has been suspended for six games by the NFL due to an alleged domestic violence incident in July 2016.

"Unfortunately you get confused in this conversation," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday. "Every person that has any sense at all understands domestic violence and abhors it. On the other hand, I've had a lot of experience in this area. For 10 years before I bought the Cowboys I was the head of [a] battered women [organization] of Arkansas. I raised more money and been in more safe houses than a lot of people that talk about it and so it's a terrible problem.

"On the other hand with what we are today and what we're trying to be relative to addressing it in the league, [it] has all kinds of issues and it should. It's a very complicated issue because you have no evidence here. That's all I want to say about it. But it creates quite a convoluted approach by Zeke's representatives and by the league that I really hate is a focus of all of our attention. I do. Even though others would say that the issue needs this kind of focus and you're using the NFL for visibility."

Texans-Cowboys Preseason Game Moved To Arlington

Aug 28, 2017 6:24 PM

Thursday's preseason game between the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans has been moved to Arlington due to Hurricane Harvey.

Houston is currently in a state of emergency due to severe flooding in the area.

The Texans open up the 2017 regular season on September 10th at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The two teams will play again on December 17th, which would allow the NFL to flip home dates if the recovery effort won't allow the Texans to host the game.

Cowboys Likely Lose Anthony Hitchens To Torn ACL

Aug 28, 2017 12:29 PM

The Dallas Cowboys are anticipating Anthony Hitchens suffered a torn ACL in Saturday's preseason game.

Hitchens suffered the injury with 19 seconds left in the first half. Hitchens will likely require surgery and miss the entire 2017 season.

Hitchens is the Cowboys' starting middle linebacker.

"I don't want to go there," said Jerry Jones when asked if Hitchens suffered a torn ACL. "All I know, though, is I don't like the way it sounds. They'll take a look at it again tomorrow. If it were going to put him down, it'd be an ACL tear."

Roger Goodell's Job As Commissioner Never In Danger

Aug 22, 2017 1:15 PM

There was speculation recently that Roger Goodell's job as commissioner could be in jeopardy due to how he's taken on both Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft during high profile suspensions.

But Goodell is on the cusp of a contract extension.

Ownership sources say Goodell's job was never in danger and he's trying to follow protocol on the Ezekiel Elliott situation.

Some owners feel that Jones has been "beyond out of line" a few times recently, never more than last October, when he yelled at NFL executive Lisa Friel at a hotel bar over the Elliott investigation.

Goodell is likely to remain in the job until he's at least 65 (2024).

NFL, NFLPA Begin Fight Over Ezekiel Elliott Suspension

Aug 17, 2017 11:15 AM

The NFL and NFLPA released competing statements on Wednesday in regards to the Ezekiel Elliott situation.

Shortly after news broke that commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday appointed Harold Henderson to be the arbiter for Elliott's appeal hearing on Aug. 29, the NFL accused the players union of leaking text messages sent by Elliott's ex-girlfriend in an effort to discredit her claims of domestic abuse.

The NFL's statement followed reports by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Yahoo! Sports that revealed text messages sent by Tiffany Thompson, Elliott's ex-girlfriend, that were included in the NFL's 160-page report of the findings of its investigation into Elliott's alleged domestic abuse.

"Over the past few days we've received multiple reports of the NFLPA spreading derogatory information to the media about the victim in [the] Ezekiel Elliott discipline case. It's a common tactic to attempt to prove the innocence of the accused by discrediting the victim -- in this case Ms. Thompson -- when coming forward to report such abuse," Joe Lockhart, the NFL's executive vice president of communications, said in a statement.

"Common or not, these tactics are shameful. Efforts to shame and blame victims are often what prevent people from coming forward to report violence and/or seek help in the first place."

The NFLPA responded with a statement calling the league's allegations that the union was spreading information about the case a "lie."

"The public statement issued on behalf of every NFL owner is a lie. The NFLPA categorically denies the accusations made in this statement. We know the League office has a history of being exposed for its lack of credibility. This is another example of the NFL's hypocrisy on display and an attempt to create a sideshow to distract from their own failings in dealing with such serious issues. They should be ashamed for stooping to new lows," it said.

Elliott will argue, according to the documents, that Thompson made multiple threats to "ruin his career."

Ezekiel Elliott To File Appeal Of Six-Game Suspension

Aug 14, 2017 9:56 PM

Ezekiel Elliott will file the appeal of his six-game suspension on Tuesday or Wednesday.

A portion of his argument, according to those familiar with it, revolves around the credibility of his alleged victim. Elliott will attempt to show that the NFL's suspension did not accurately weigh that factor.

Elliott actually filed an official incident report alleging harassment with Frisco (Texas) Police on Sept. 5, 2016 against Tiffany Thompson, identified by the league as his alleged victim.

The report details that police were dispatched to Elliott's house because he received "50-plus" phone calls from his ex-girlfriend between 2:39 a.m. and 10 a.m. She called from a blocked number and Elliott answered several times, he told police, informing Thompson she was not supposed to be calling him, per the report.

Ezekiel Elliott Suspended Six Games By NFL

Aug 12, 2017 3:14 PM

Ezekiel Elliott has received a six-game suspension from the NFL for violating their personal conduct policy.

The NFL's investigation began over a year ago in which he was accused of domestic violence in Columbus, Ohio.

Elliott is expected to appeal the suspension.

Without an appeal, Elliott's suspension would begin Sept. 2. He would be eligible to return to the active roster Oct. 23, the day after the Cowboys' Week 7 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Legal authorities concluded that they could not prove Elliott's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Several witnesses, according to sources close to the case, had heard the woman yell at Elliott that she would "ruin his career" when she was unhappy that they would not continue their relationship.

NFL Could Rule On Ezekiel Elliott Case By Friday

Aug 10, 2017 7:41 PM

The NFL could rule on its investigation into Ezekiel Elliott as early as Friday.

For more than a year the league has been probing into multiple incidents involving Elliott, including a domestic violence accusation made against him by a woman identifying herself as his former girlfriend to authorities.

The NFL launched its investigation after a woman claiming to be Elliott's ex-girlfriend accused him of assault in a report filed with Columbus, Ohio, police in July 2016.

There were reportedly five separate incidents in July of 2016. Elliott was never arrested and prosecutors declined to charge Elliott.
