NFL Denies Deal With Jerry Jones Over Litigation Threat

Nov 28, 2017 12:19 PM

Jerry Jones seemed to hint at a quid pro quo when he said last week that he won't sue over Roger Goodell's anticipated contract extension.

“I told the [Compensation] Committee that I was standing down on legal action because they wanted to get input from all of the owners,” Jones told Jarrett Bell of USA Today.

NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said that no promise was made to submit the Goodell contract to all owners for input and/or approval in order to avoid a threat of litigation from Jones.

Goodell's extension is expected to be approved in December.

Jason Witten Denies Interest In Leaving Cowboys For Volunteers

Nov 27, 2017 6:42 PM

Jason Witten is not currently considering leaving the Dallas Cowboys to become head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers.

Witten has been linked to the job despite remaining an active player.

"Coaching is something I can see myself down the road, having one of those opportunities, but right now I'm all in with this team and my feet are planted firmly here and this opportunity that I have in 2017 and getting it right this week," Witten said. "And not only that, but I really love this team we have and what we're trying to build and get it right, right now and for beyond, for the future.

"So I feel too good to think that I'd consider something like that at this point."

Tennessee backed out of their agreement with Greg Schiano following backlash from fans.

Witten's name was mentioned as a possibility by outkickthecoverage.com, which said Witten would be willing to leave immediately to take over at his former school.

Jerry Jones Continues To Back Jason Garrett

Nov 24, 2017 11:48 AM

Jerry Jones addressed the Dallas Cowboys following their blowout loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Jones rebuffed questions about the job security of Jason Garrett.

"No. Just no. Again, I don't step out of the dressing room and evaluate the coaching position at all," Jones said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "Candidly and I don't even want to say it so that somebody might repeat it. Absolutely not. We've got some things that we're not playing good. We're not a good team right now. We can be a good team. I'm not even going to talk about anything positive but there are things if you want to look at them. We've just got to get everybody to just sit here and grab a hold, get back and let's see if we can't do better and win some games."

Competition Committee Denies Jerry Jones' Request For Vote On Goodell

Nov 20, 2017 5:54 PM

The NFL's compensation committee has denied a request from Jerry Jones to allow a final vote of approval on the contract extension of Roger Goodell.

The committee also reiterated Monday that Jones should drop his threat to sue the league over Goodell's deal.

Goodell is on track to sign his extension at or before the owners' meetings in Dallas on Dec. 13th.

Jones threatened to sue the league if the committee approves an extension, saying it should be reviewed and approved by all owners. Goodell's current deal as commissioner is set to expire after the 2018 season.

Jones To Goodell: I'm Gonna Come After You With Everything I Have

Nov 17, 2017 1:41 PM

Jerry Jones told associates that Roger Goodell assured him last spring that there would be no suspension for Ezekiel Elliott.

When Jones was told by Goodell that Elliott would be suspended for six games, there was initially silence and then anger.

"I'm gonna come after you with everything I have," Jones said.

Jones then referenced Deflategate.

"If you think Bob Kraft came after you hard, Bob Kraft is a p---y compared to what I'm going to do."

Jones has since questioned the leadership of Goodell and is even trying to block his extension.

NFL Says Jerry Jones' Conduct 'Detrimental' To League

Nov 16, 2017 11:10 AM

The NFL sent a letter to Jerry Jones' attorney accusing the Dallas Cowboys owner of "conduct detrimental to the league's best interests" over his objection to a contract extension for Roger Goodell.

Jones hired attorney David Boies and threatened to sue the NFL if Goodell's contract extension was approved by the compensation committee. All 32 owners voted unanimously in May to let the committee finalize a deal with Goodell.

Jones has denied that his objections to the extension are tied to Goodell's decision to suspend Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliott for six games over alleged domestic violence.
