Ezekiel Elliott Loses Attempt At Injunction

Oct 30, 2017 11:38 PM

Ezekiel Elliott lost an attempt to block his six-game suspension Monday when U.S. District Judge Katherine Polk Failla denied a request for a preliminary injunction after hearing arguments from the NFL and NFLPA.

With the ruling in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Elliott's six-game suspension would again be in effect and he would be ineligible to play until the Cowboys' game against the Oakland Raiders on Dec. 17.

In her ruling, Judge Failla said "the NFLPA has failed to demonstrate a substantial question warranting the extraordinary remedy of injunctive relief or a balance of hardships that decidedly weighs in its favor."

Elliott received the six-game suspension on Aug. 11 for violating the league's personal conduct policy relating to domestic violence allegations by a former girlfriend. He was never charged with any crime by authorities who investigated the allegations.

Ezekiel Elliott Confident He'll Play Remainder Of Season

Oct 30, 2017 8:11 AM

Ezekiel Elliott will be in New York on Monday to attend a preliminary injunction hearing that could decide whether he remains on the field for the rest of the season or is forced to miss the next six games.

"We're confident in our argument," Elliott said. "We're confident that I'll be on the field for the rest of the year."

The Dallas Cowboys running back attended a similar hearing in Texas before the season started when he first appeared at a preliminary injunction that was eventually vacated by the appellate court.

A decision on the injunction could come in the early part of the week.

Jerry Jones Leading Group Of 17 Blocking Roger Goodell's Extension

Oct 29, 2017 9:05 AM

Jerry Jones was a leading voice among 17 owners that would like to delay Roger Goodell's pending contract extension.

The owners had a conference call to discuss the issue on Thursday. Goodell's contract extension was scheduled to be completed in September but remains an unsolved issue going into November.

"You don't get to have this many messes over the years like Roger has had and survive it," said one owner on the call.

The NFL needs 24 owners to approve the replacement of Goodell and owners are skeptical there would be enough support for it.

"Maybe Arthur [Blank, the head of the Compensation Committee] and that committee think they're on track," an owner said about Goodell's proposed extension. "But they have a lot more resistance than they counted on -- and maybe they don't know how the resistance is growing as we speak."

Owners are unhappy with how Goodell has handled the NFL's situation with Los Angeles, as well as domestic violence issues and the ongoing player protests.

"We just don't have enough problem solvers," said another NFL owner. "We gotta get it right or we're just going to let it burn. Last time I felt like this was before the 1993 CBA settlement. That was just depressing, and Paul Tagliabue and Gene [Upshaw] stepped up and saved it in a spectacular way. We don't have that feeling right now."

Oct 18, 2017 5:38 PM

AT&T Stadium in Dallas will host the 2018 NFL Draft.

The NFL has taken its draft on the road in each of the past three seasons in Chicago and Philadelphia.

This will be the first draft hosted in an NFL stadium.

"Philadelphia raised the bar by taking the Draft to another level, and this new opportunity in Dallas will enable us to continue the event's evolution and grow it even further," Roger Goodell said in a release. "We are grateful to the Dallas Cowboys, the cities of Arlington, Dallas, and Frisco, and the Dallas Sports Commission for their leadership in turning this vision into reality."

Ezekiel Elliott Requests Full-Panel Rehearing

Oct 14, 2017 1:16 PM

Ezekiel Elliott is seeking an immediate recall of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for their mandate so they can pursue a full-panel rehearing with the court.

The development comes a day after Elliott's suspension was reinstated following the court's 2-1 ruling in favor of the NFL in its appeal of an NFLPA lawsuit seeking to block the six-game ban.

Elliott could play again while the court determines whether or not to grant the request.

Full-panel rehearings are rare.

Elliott's suspension formally restarted Thursday after the 5th Circuit's ruling and is currently set to end on Friday, Nov. 24.

Court Lifts Injunction On Ezekiel Elliott's Suspension

Oct 12, 2017 11:10 PM

A federal appeals court has lifted an injunction on Ezekiel Elliott's six-game suspension by the NFL.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans on Thursday granted the league's emergency request to set aside the injunction and ordered the district court in Texas to dismiss Elliott's case. The three-judge panel voted 2-1 to back the NFL's argument.

The Dallas Cowboys have a bye this week and if Elliott's suspension begins immediately, he would miss games against the 49ers, Washington, the Chiefs, Falcons, Eagles and Chargers.

Elliott would be eligible to return for Week 13 against Washington as he played in the Cowboys' first five games.

Jerry Jones Playing Role Of Bad Guy With Anthem Stance

Oct 11, 2017 5:02 PM

Jerry Jones had a meeting with players and coaches on Wednesday and said his stance on the national anthem was to play the bad guy role to deflect attention from the players.

Jones sought to ensure players that he saw the bigger picture on how the situation is impacting the business side of the NFL.

Jones offered players the opportunity to discuss the situation with him directly.

Players had been told to bring their concerns about Jones' comments to the meeting.
