John Elway, Tony Romo Have Spent Time Together Recently

Jan 25, 2017 8:50 AM

John Elway and Tony Romo were photographed together at an event for a mortgage lender based in Los Angeles.

The photo of Elway and Romo together has fueled speculation that the Denver Broncos might have interest in dealing for Romo, who played second fiddle to Dak Prescott with the Dallas Cowboys this season after returning from injury.

According to a report by NFL.com, Romo would prefer to land with the Broncos if the Cowboys decide to trade or release him.

Jerry Jones Will Alone Decide Future Of Tony Romo

Jan 17, 2017 7:54 PM

Jerry Jones says he alone will decide the future of Tony Romo with the Dallas Cowboys, and there are "several cards to be played."

Romo started for Dallas for 10 years before losing his job to rookie Dak Prescott after a preseason back injury.

The Cowboys are most likely to trade or release Romo.

Romo has the largest 2017 salary cap figure among quarterbacks at $24.7 million. The Cowboys could save about $5 million under the cap with a release.

Ezekiel Elliott Complains About Lingering NFL Investigation

Jan 17, 2017 8:12 AM

Ezekiel Elliott isn't happy with the NFL's lingering investigation into domestic violence claims made against him.

"I do want closure," Elliott said following Sunday's playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers. "I do. I would rather them not drag it on as long. I think if there was something to find, which there's not, they would've found it by now. The police did a very thorough investigation.

"I will tell you this — it just seems like they're dragging their feet right now. Who knows, man? I just want it to end."

Elliott's lawyer made similar comments back in October and the matter remains pending.

Jason Witten Aware He Has A 'Shelf Life'

Jan 16, 2017 8:15 AM

Jason Witten isn't close to retirement, but admitted after the Dallas Cowboys' loss on Sunday that he knows he has a "shelf life" as a player.

A reporter mentioned that Witten has never been to a conference title game.

"Yeah, I'm well aware of that," Witten said. "Obviously that's something I realize, regardless of how many catches you have or any of that stuff, your legacy will be remembered as how you play in these certain situations in the playoffs, and that's tough. It's tough for me to swallow that. It's not about any one individual. I’m proud of this team. I really have my whole career I've tried to work really hard to not make it about me, and that's why there's emotion that goes along with this.

"I'm in my 14th year, and you know there's a shelf life for everybody. You put everything you have into it, and when you come up short it's tough. It's not about a paycheck. It's about an opportunity to compete and lead and win and play in these types of games. This team had a special feel all the way through, and to come up short like that for me is hard."

Witten has one more year left on his current contract.

Elliott is still in the process of responding to the league's questions, which he received within the past month.

Any potential discipline will be for the 2017 season.

Dak Prescott Has No Plans For Vacation During Playoff Bye Week

Jan 6, 2017 10:23 AM

Dak Prescott says he has no plans to leave town during the Dallas Cowboys' playoff bye.

With the bye week in the 2007 playoffs, Romo, Jason Witten and Bobby Carpenter went to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with their then-girlfriends and wives. A week later, they lost to the New York Giants and the trip drew much consternation.

"Hanging out and getting rested," Prescott said of what he plans to do this weekend. "Yeah, anytime football's on I'm going to watch it."

No Teams Finish 2016 In Top-10 In Both Offensive, Defensive DVOA

Jan 3, 2017 2:01 PM

The NFL has very few teams this season that excel in all facets of the game. Further evidence of this issue shows itself in the fact that there is only one team ranking in the top-10 in both Football Outsiders' Offensive and Defensive DVOA.

Last season, the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs ranked in the top-10 on both sides of the ball.

The Chiefs were the closest team to finish in the top-10 in both Offensive and Defensive DVOA at 13th and 14th.

The New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys finished the season ranked first and second in both Total DVOA and Weighted DVOA.
