Dez Bryant Making Progress With Rehab Without Setbacks

May 9, 2016 9:33 AM

Dez Bryant has made progress in returning from ankle surgery.

Bryant missed seven games in 2015 with various injuries including a broken foot.

Jason Garrett said Bryant is on track in rehab.

"He's done a really good job with his rehab and he's made progress," Garrett said, via the team's official website. "Like with all those guys, it's a day-by-day, week-by-week thing. But he's had no setbacks, but he really continues to get better and better."

The Dallas Cowboys will likely ease Bryant back into workouts.

"He's not 100 percent, like, full-speed - what do you call it? Released, cleared to go," receivers coach Derek Dooley said. "That doesn't mean he can't, but I think June 1."

Cowboys Won't Place Jaylon Smith On IR To Begin Season

May 5, 2016 12:37 PM

Jerry Jones says the Dallas Cowboys won't place Jaylon Smith on injured reserve when the season starts despite his recovery from a serious knee injury.

"We'll take a chance he'll be back for the playoffs," Jones said of the linebacker.

Smith tore the anterior and lateral collateral ligaments in his left knee and also suffered nerve damage in Notre Dame's Fiesta Bowl loss to Ohio State. Structurally the knee is sound, cleared at the medical re-check in Indianapolis, but the nerve issue scared off teams from putting Smith on their draft boards.

Smith was set to be a top pick in the 2016 NFL Draft but the injury dropped him into the second round.

Jerry Jones Regrets Not Being Able To Draft Paxton Lynch

May 2, 2016 12:08 PM

Jerry Jones is already admitting regret over the Dallas Cowboys' inability to trade up to select Paxton Lynch.

The Denver Broncos drafted Lynch 26th overall by moving up with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Cowboys were targeting Lynch to serve as backup to Tony Romo and become his eventual successor.

"When I look back on my life, I overpaid for my big successes every time," Jones said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "And when I tried to get a bargain, get it a little cheaper or get a better deal on it, I ended up usually either getting it and not happy I got it. Or missing it.

"And I probably should have overpaid here."

RealGM's Jeff Risdon had Lynch ranked first on his big board at quarterback.
