Jerry Jones: Roger Goodell Doing 'Outstanding Job'

Jul 29, 2015 9:34 PM

Jerry Jones voiced his support for Roger Goodell on Wednesday.

"He's got obviously a very tough job," Jones said. "Now I see some people doing that, that's that old violin that's not feeling too sorry for him because that's why you pay the big bucks is to deal with the big problems. But he's doing an outstanding job. I can tell you firsthand that in his spot you have to with people that you are counting on to help build and to help excel as far as the National Football League, I'm talking about the owners, you have to know that you're going to make some decisions that are very unpopular with that particular group. This is the case.

"I can speak to that because on a personal basis as well as for my franchise and our Dallas Cowboys franchise, we've had that happen to us. I'm sitting there living with the result of the commissioner's decision still today that I didn't agree with when it happened. And so some of the very people sometimes that have the biggest complaints, they're the ones who give you a phone call and say, 'Hey let's be a team player now and let's all get in here and realize that this happens to everybody and let's go on and compete. We've got a great league and a great game.'"

The Dallas Cowboys were stripped of $10 million in salary cap space in 2012.

Dez Bryant Threatens To Sit Out Camp, Games If No Deal Reached

Jul 14, 2015 11:45 AM

Dez Bryant has informed the Dallas Cowboys he intends to not attend training camp and will also sit out games unless the two sides reach agreement on a long-term deal by Wednesday's deadline.

The Cowboys and Bryant's representatives, both CAA's Tom Condon and members of Roc Nation, have had one face-to-face negotiating session.

The threat was personally delivered in a phone call last week, reiterating what Bryant's representatives have been telling the team. Bryant told Jones he understands the league created the franchise player designation with the approval of the NFLPA and that he wants to spend his career playing for the Cowboys.

Bryant would play for the franchise tender of $12.8 million if a deal isn't reached by Wednesday.

Bryant cannot be fined for missing training camp without signing his franchise tender but would be forfeiting $752,000 for each regular-season game missed while not having the ability to get the long-term contract he desires.

The Cowboys have reacted as though they perceive Bryant's rhetoric to be an empty threat. He has undermined it by taking part in some individual drills during team OTAs and by appearing on the sidelines at minicamp even though little or no progress had been achieved in negotiations.

The NFL Players Association is reviewing whether there was collusion between the Denver Broncos and the Dallas Cowboys on the unsettled contracts of Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant.

The players' association says it believes the Broncos and Cowboys had contact about each player's contract. The collective bargaining agreement prohibits such contact.

The deadline for both Thomas and Bryant to sign long-term deals is Wednesday.

Greg Hardy Has 10-Game Suspension Reduced To Four

Jul 13, 2015 12:16 PM

The suspension of Greg Hardy has been reduced from 10 games to four games.

The NFL initially suspended Hardy in April for what it deemed to be multiple violations of the league's personal conduct policy during an incident with a former girlfriend in spring 2014. The charges against Hardy, who was with the Carolina Panthers at the time, were eventually dismissed after the ex-girlfriend, Nicole Holder, refused to cooperate with the Mecklenburg (North Carolina) County district attorney's office.

Hardy signed with the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason.

In July 2014, Hardy was found guilty by a judge of assaulting Holder and threatening to kill her. He received a 60-day suspended sentence and 18 months' probation on misdemeanor charges but appealed the judge's ruling in favor of a jury trial. The case was dismissed in February when Holder chose not to cooperate with authorities after receiving a settlement from Hardy.
