Nov 3, 2014 4:56 PM

Dez Bryant and Joseph Randle had a confrontation during the Friday practice for the Dallas Cowboys.

Jason Witten intervened and told Randle to "shut up."

“Dez didn’t miss no games for smacking his momma,” Randle said during his booking on the theft charges, referencing Bryant’s 2012 arrest on family violence charges following an altercation with his mother.

Carroll Recruited DeMarco Murray To USC As Defensive Back

Oct 31, 2014 11:27 PM

Pete Carroll recruited DeMarco Murray to play at USC as a defensive back.

Murray was coming out of high school as a star running back and decided instead to attend Oklahoma where he followed in the footsteps of Adrian Peterson.

"Pete probably could have made him an NFL corner because DeMarco is so long and athletic," recalled his high school coach, David White. "DeMarco was curious and interested about it, but he really wanted a shot at running back, and USC had three or four guys committed already. He just wanted a real chance to see if he could make it at the next level at running back."

DeMarco Murray's Extra Effort Puts Him At Risk For Fumbles

Nov 9, 2014 5:21 PM

DeMarco Murray had just fumbled seven times in 756 touches before the season, which is once every 108 touches.

But Murray is fumbling once every 46.4 touches this season as he leads the NFL in the category.

Murray's physical and relentless style has put him at risk of fumbling.

As Emmitt Smith tweeted moments after the fumble against Washington, "Know when the journey is over!!!"

"Somehow, someway we have to communicate it better, drill it better and show it better," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. "In DeMarco's case, this is probably the third or fourth one, where it's the end of the down, he's staying up and making yards and the third or fourth guy comes in rips it out.

"Understanding where he is in the play and getting down is important for him -- and he does that a lot. When you carry the football as much he does, he has that circumstance happen 25 times a game. He makes a heck of a play, we're down to the 5-yard line and ball comes out. Obviously that can't happen."

Tony Romo Available To Play In Week 9 If He Can Tolerate Pain

Oct 31, 2014 2:22 PM

Tony Romo will be available to play on Sunday for the Dallas Cowboys against the Arizona Cardinals if he can tolerate the pain in his back.

"We have nothing medically that would prevent him from playing," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Wednesday morning. "What I mean by that is there is nothing to his injury that won't function.

"This is a function of pain tolerance, [and] it is a serious issue. You could look at people who had similar-type contusions or a similar-type injury and haven't played the next week, so that would cause you some concern."

Romo needed surgery last December to repair a herniated disk.

Michael Sam Released From Cowboys' Practice Squad

Oct 28, 2014 7:00 AM

The Dallas Cowboys have waived Michael Sam from their practice squad.

The release of Sam makes room for the team to sign linebacker Troy Davis, a second-year player out of Central Florida.

"[Sam] comes to work every day, practices hard," coach Jason Garrett said last week. "He's working on his skills and trying to develop."

DeMarco Murray Makes NFL History With 7th 100-Yard Game

Oct 20, 2014 1:58 AM

DeMarco Murray became the first running back in NFL history to rush for at least 100 yards in each of the first seven games of a season with his 128-yard performance against the New York Giants.

Murray is on pace for 2,086 yards, just behind the pace Eric Dickerson had in 1984.

"I think we did this as a group," Murray said, sprinkling around praise for his offensive line. "So it's hard for me to accept this individually, and I definitely wish those guys were here. But they're a huge part of this, [along with] the tight ends, the receivers, the entire coaching staff. But I definitely give a lot of credit to those guys, and I'm blessed to be mentioned with that, but there's a lot of hard work that needs to be done. It's a long season."

Garrett: Best Decision Was To Take Burden Off Tony Romo

Nov 22, 2014 10:17 PM

The Dallas Cowboys' investment in their offensive line and running the football with DeMarco Murray has taken the weight off Tony Romo to carry the team.

Romo is not putting up gaudy numbers but stretched out over 16 games he is on pace for 4,026 yards passing, 29 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He is also on pace for his best completion percentage (68.6 percent currently) over a full season.

"I think the best thing that we've done as an organization is we've very purposefully tried to take the burden off our quarterback," Jason Garrett said. "At different times in Tony's career, he's had a lot of burden on him -- we haven't played great defense, we haven't been great on the offensive line, we haven't run the ball very well -- and all of a sudden the way we're going to move the ball and the way we're going to score points is by throwing it. We've made a very conscious effort as an organization to say, 'OK, let's get better on defense. Let's get better up front. Let's spread this burden around.' The best teams in this league, the best teams in any sport, have a burden that is spread around. It's rare that one guy can carry a team. It's really important for everyone to understand that they have a role, and the more that we can spread the responsibilities around throughout your football team, the better you're going to be as a team."
