In one month, the Cowboys will open their 48th training camp with their million dollar quarterback ready to go. If that salary sounds absurdly low for Tony Romo, given that Houston's untested Matt Schaub recently signed a six-year, $48 million deal, bear in mind that Romo had never taken an NFL snap when he signed it prior to the 2006 season. That two-year $3.9 million contract expires after this season. Romo has said he hopes to get an extension done before the season though he is not stressing over it. The Cowboys have indicated an interest in accommodating him.

While many people were hesitant to believe that there was a genuine spark between the two, their actions spoke for themselves at the Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. It was there that Tony Romo held Carrie Underwood's purse while she went to accept an award - an action he would soon regret. Once his teammates heard about the purse-holding incident, Romo was made fun of for a while. But when Tony was asked about his relationship with Carrie, he had a few words of his own: "I was just supporting Carrie," Romo said. "We are good friends. We get to see each other go through different things in life. It was neat to go there and listen to some good music and get away for the night." And when asked about how holding a woman's purse could turn into such a big story, Tony simply replied with "You have to help out when you can."

Things between Tony Romo and Carrie Underwood are reportedly getting very serious. "Carrie would love to marry Tony," a so-called "insider" recently told In Touch Weekly. "They've been talking about getting engaged and it's probably going to be soon." Speculation as to why Underwood has potential wedding bells ringing in her head reportedly stems from that fact that she took the time to try on "several wedding gowns" when she was deciding on what to wear to last month's Academy of Country Music Awards, during which she was honored as top female vocalist; saw her debut album "Some Hearts" take home album of the year; and was also awarded with video of the year for "Before He Cheats." Romo and Underwood began dating in late December, when Romo officially confirmed they were together after they were seen hugging and laughing on the field at Texas Stadium on Christmas Day before the Cowboys' game against the Philadelphia Eagles. However the couple apparently split soon after, as Romo told reporters during a pre-Super Bowl press conference, "She's a very nice, sweet girl, I care for her and whoever ends up with her will be a very lucky guy."

The Cowboys' regular season does not start until Sept. 9, but quarterback Tony Romo hopes to have a new contract completed by the time he attempts his first pass against the New York Giants. "I'd definitely like it before the season began, but you never know how these things go," he said. "I know the Jones family. They know me. We'll come to a conclusion."

Terrell Owens will get his $3 million roster bonus from the Cowboys even though, like several other starters, he hasn't been practicing with the team. Owens will get that bonus, plus a $5 million salary for the 2007 season, since he was still on the roster Friday, when he was again absent from voluntary organized team activities.
