Jed York confirmed the San Francisco 49ers pursued a trade for Odell Beckham Jr. with the New York Giants.

“We were definitely in it,” York said. “We were aggressive. But I think (the Giants) wanted different things than we had to offer. I think it would have been very hard for us to just give up a first-round pick and not get a ton in return, other than just the player, knowing that the second pick in the draft is a very, very valuable pick.”

The 49ers, however, did not pursue a trade for Antonio Brown.

New York Giants ownership considers the trade of Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns among the toughest moves they have ever made.

John Mara even insisted that he gave a "reluctant approval" after thinking about it.

The Giants traded Beckham for a first-round pick, third-round pick and safety Jabrill Peppers. The deal came seven months after Beckham received a five-year deal worth up to $98.5 million.

"I will tell you it was a reluctant approval on my part because I happen to like Odell [Beckham Jr.] very much, and I recognize the unique talent that he has," Mara said. "It's not easy to trade that player to another team."

After a trade for Antonio Brown fell through, the Buffalo Bills received a call from the New York Giants on their interest in Odell Beckham Jr.

Brandon Beane, however, wasn't interested in discussing a deal.

Dave Gettleman is a disciple of Ernie Accorsi, who similarly tried to scare up offers with the Chargers in the Eli Manning trade of 2004.

The Giants ultimately traded Beckham to the Cleveland Browns.

The San Francisco 49ers had interest in trading for Odell Beckham Jr. both during the 2018 season and again in the offseason.

The 49ers' best trade asset for the Giants was the No. 2 overall pick.

"Someone with the Giants told me they were asking for the second pick of the draft from the 49ers, which the 49ers weren’t willing to do," wrote Jay Glazer.

Jay Glazer predicted in mid-February that the New York Giants would trade Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason.

Glazer received criticism from some on the prediction as the Giants were posturing publicly that they wouldn't trade Beckham.

Glazer explained his reasoning on the prediction.

"I knew things were heating up but I also knew the Giants’ asking price was way too high," wrote Glazer. "There were teams that were interested that were asking me, 'Are you sure they’re motivated to do this, are they really or are they just expecting one of us to do something crazy for him?'

"The Giants were trying to act like they needed to be blown away with something and it seemed to me that they had a plan to take the best available offer by a certain date or time. If they waited, would they have gotten more? I don’t know. I know their asking price at first was pretty outlandish."

The Giants traded Beckham to the Cleveland Browns at the start of the NFL's new league year.

Kareem Hunt has been suspended eight games by the NFL for violationing its personal conduct policy.

Hunt will not appeal the suspension.

The Cleveland Browns signed Hunt this offseason.

Odell Beckham Jr. has only been in the NFL for five years, but his production on the field and the twists and turns off it have been remarkable.

The Cleveland Browns will sign Demetrius Harris to a two-year deal when the new league year opens on Wednesday.

Harris has spent the last six seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Over his run with K.C., the tight end had 57 receptions for 605 yards and six touchdowns.

Breshad Perriman agreed to join the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday, but those plans were scraped when the team acquired Odell Beckham, Jr. in a trade with the New York Giants.

John Dorsey and Drew Rosenhaus mutually agreed to not follow through on the verbal agreement.

Instead, Perriman will sign a one-year, $4 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to a source.

The New York Giants have traded Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns will trade a first round pick, third round pick and Jabrill Peppers to the Giants for Beckham.

Beckham signed an extension with the Giants last offseason. Beckham is expected to request an upgraded contract with the Browns.
