The Carolina Panthers have agreed to a deal with Eli Apple.

Apple had agreed to a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders on March 18, but the sides could not finalize the deal and he became a free agent again on April 2, according to sources.

The cornerback has started 51 games over his four-year career with the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints.

David Tepper expressed optimism that the NFL will have some fans in attendance, even if they don't reopen as usual due to COVID-19.

"You won't be playing having full stadiums, but that doesn't mean you can't have some fans in the stadium either," Tepper said during an appearance on CNBC. "If you're comfortable being in a closed airplane for a cross-country trip, 18 inches apart, maybe with two seats in between you and being 5 feet away from each other, you might be comfortable in an open-air stadium."

Tepper added: "There should be some amount of fans in the stadiums, depending on what locale and where you are and what the local rules are. There could possibly be."

Cam Newton is now willing to enter the 2020 season as a backup quarterback.

Newton had been waiting for a starting opportunity before signing.

Newton will likely need to demonstrate he's healthy before being signed to start.

The Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots have been speculated as possible spots for Newton.
