Christian McCaffrey Not Expected To Play Against Lions

Nov 18, 2020 3:44 PM

The Carolina Panthers don't expect to have Christian McCaffrey on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

McCaffrey is expected to miss a second straight game with a shoulder injury suffered in his first game back after missing six straight with a high ankle sprain.

He hasn't practiced since suffering the injury late in a Nov. 8 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The decision to basically rule McCaffrey out came two days after Matt Rhule said he was optimistic the NFL's highest-paid back would play this week.

Christian McCaffrey Trending Towards Week 9 Return

Nov 5, 2020 4:18 PM

Christian McCaffrey is trending towards returning from injured reserve for Week 9 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

"If we played right now, I feel he'd be able to play," Matt Rhule said.

McCaffrey suffered a high ankle sprain during the Carolina Panthers' Week 2 loss and hasn't played since.

"Christian looked good today,'' Rhule said. "He looked fresh and fast. He recovered well from yesterday.''

McCaffrey returned to practice last week and was given a designation to return, but wasn't taken off IR.
