Cam Newton Suffers Left Ankle Sprain

Cam Newton suffered a left ankle sprain during Thursday night's preseason game between the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots.

He suffered the injury during a first-quarter sack. Newton walked to the locker room and was seen leaving the stadium in a walking boot.

The Panthers are expecting more details after further tests on Friday, according to a source.

The Carolina Panthers are expecting a third-year leap from Curtis Samuel.

In 22 games, the wide receiver has 66 catches for 757 yards and seven touchdowns.

"He's had the most growth out of any player I've ever seen in terms of as a player, confidence ... everything. I'm expecting him to have a huge year. He's worked his way to be in that position," fellow wide receiver Torrey Smith said.

in addition Ron Rivera said Samuel is "light years" ahead of his rookie self: "And now he has taken an even bigger leap. It's exciting to watch."

Ryan Kalil has come out of retirement to sign a one-year, $8.4 million deal with the New York Jets.

Kalil made $7.5 million last season for the Carolina Panthers.

The Jets reached out to Kalil a few weeks ago to gauge his interest in coming out of retirement.
