Cam Newton 'Still Rehabbing' Injured Foot

Oct 28, 2019 9:32 AM

Ron Rivera said after the Carolina Panthers' 51-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday that Cam Newton is still recovering from his foot injury.

Newton has missed the last five games with a left foot sprain.

"Cam is still rehabbing," Rivera said. "I'll tell you guys where he is [status-wise] on Monday. I'll tell you where he is on Wednesday."

Kyle Allen has played well in Newton's absence.

Kyle Allen Will Start For Panthers In Week 8

Oct 22, 2019 8:57 AM

Kyle Allen will start at quarterback for the Carolina Panthers when they take on the San Francisco 49ers this weekend.

The Panthers are 4-0 with Allen since Cam Newton was shut down with what has been described as a mild left Lisfranc sprain.

"Just so everybody knows, Kyle will start this week as we go forward," Ron Rivera said. "For the most part, Cam's going to continue his rehab. He's done a great job. He'll be with the trainers. We're not putting any pressure on Cam [to return]. He's done a great job doing the things we've asked of him.

"He's gone above and beyond as far as working with our quarterbacks and helping them along the way. Until I get something else given to me by the trainers and doctors, he'll continue to do his program."

Regarding a report last week that Newton was healthy and would begin practice this week, Rivera said, "You might see him, you might not."

Cam Newton Expected Back At Practice After Bye

Oct 15, 2019 3:15 PM

Cam Newton is expected to be healthy enough to return to practice after the Carolina Panthers' bye this week, according to a source.

While Newton has been sidelined with a foot injury, undrafted free agent Kyle Allen has gone 4-0 as the team's starter.

Allen has completed 65.6% of his passes for 901 yards with seven touchdowns, no interceptions and a 106.6 quarterback rating.

Newton struggled through the first two weeks of the season before a mild Lisfranc sprain shut him down.
