Le'Veon Bell Agrees To Four-Year, $52.5M Deal With Jets

Mar 14, 2019 8:19 AM

Le'Veon Bell has agreed to sign a four-year, $52.5 million contract with the New York Jets.

The deal contains $35 million in guaranteed money for Bell. The maximum value could hit $61 million with incentives.

Bell sat out the entire 2018 season after he was unable to agree upon a long-term contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bell became a free agent when the Steelers elected not to use a franchise or transition tag on him.

The San Francisco 49ers also made a strong offer for Bell. The Baltimore Ravens, meanwhile, never made an offer.

Bell's average salary per year with the Jets, $13.25 million, would rank him second among running backs in the NFL, behind Todd Gurley's $14.37 million average.

The Steelers offered Bell $70 million last offseason but contained only $17 million in guarantees. Todd Gurley and David Johnson received between $31 million and $45 million in guarantees. Bell called the Steelers' $70 million "Monopoly money." Bell's contract with the Jets doubles his guaranteed money even if it doesn't make up the $14.5 million in lost 2018 money.
