Ravens Hire Greg Roman To Fix Run Game

Jan 12, 2017 6:39 PM

The Baltimore Ravens have hired Greg Roman to be the team's senior offensive assignment/tight ends coach.

Roman was fired by the Buffalo Bills early in the 2016 season.

Baltimore retained Marty Mornhinweg this offseason.

John Harbaugh insists a balanced offense is a priority in 2017 and that means having Roman focus on the run game.

"Marty believes in running the football, and I believe in running the football," Harbaugh said last week. "We have not run the football well enough or enough, really, for the last two years. That has to change."

Steve Smith has announced his retirement from football, but Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti says the team may try to entice him to return.

"I'm retired. I sent in my paperwork to Roger Goodell on January 2," Smith said.

Ravens May Raise Ticket Prices Despite Missing Playoffs

Jan 11, 2017 8:59 AM

The Baltimore Ravens are considering an increase in ticket prices for the 2017 season despite missing the playoffs in each of the last two years.

Teams often raise prices after successful seasons due to higher demand.

"Also since we last raised prices, we've spent about $45 million improving the stadium and over the next two and a half years, we're going to spend an additional $120 million, and that will include putting in some escalators and elevators to the top level, which will make a lot of our PSL holders up there happy," team president Dick Cass said. "So we're seriously considering a price increase."

John Harbaugh Says Ravens Need Another Running Back

Jan 10, 2017 8:28 AM

The Baltimore Ravens established a new single-season franchise low in rushing attempts in 2016 and John Harbaugh wants to change that going forward.

Baltimore largely featured the tandem of Terrence West and Kenneth Dixon.

"We need another back," Harbaugh said. "What type of back that is? I think we're talking about it. We have a pretty good idea of the type of back we want to add."

Baltimore's backs accounted for just six runs and one reception over 20 yards. No other backfield generated fewer big plays in the passing game.

Eight Teams Can Be Forced To Appear On Hard Knocks In 2017

Jan 4, 2017 8:45 AM

If no teams volunteers, there are eight teams that the NFL can force to appear on HBO's Hard Knocks this year.

Those teams are the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints.

A team can be forced to appear on Hard Knocks if three conditions are met: a) it hasn't appeared on Hard Knocks in the last 10 years, b) it hasn't made the playoffs in the last two years, and c) it doesn't have a new head coach.

No Teams Finish 2016 In Top-10 In Both Offensive, Defensive DVOA

Jan 3, 2017 2:01 PM

The NFL has very few teams this season that excel in all facets of the game. Further evidence of this issue shows itself in the fact that there is only one team ranking in the top-10 in both Football Outsiders' Offensive and Defensive DVOA.

Last season, the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs ranked in the top-10 on both sides of the ball.

The Chiefs were the closest team to finish in the top-10 in both Offensive and Defensive DVOA at 13th and 14th.

The New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys finished the season ranked first and second in both Total DVOA and Weighted DVOA.
