Falcons Still Want To Sign Julio Jones To Extension Before Week 1

Aug 26, 2019 8:19 PM

The Atlanta Falcons would like to sign Julio Jones to a contract extension before the start of the season.

The market for wide receivers shifted with Michael Thomas signing a five-year, $96.25 million deal.

“I would hope so, but I don’t know that,” Falcons owner Arthur Blank told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Monday. “We’ll have to let things take their course. I know that we are definitely in serious negotiations. It’s our goal and their goal as well to get it done before the start of the season.”

Jones’ deal has two years remaining and is scheduled to make $9.6 million in 2019 and $11.4 million in 2020.

Thomas Dimitroff: New Deal For Julio Jones 'Around The Corner'

Aug 9, 2019 10:21 AM

The Atlanta Falcons have repeatedly said they intend to pay Julio Jones, but a new deal remains unsigned.

Thomas Dimitroff joined the broadcast of Thursday night's preseason game against the Miami Dolphins and spoke about the wide receiver.

"He's in a great spot, we're in a great spot," Dimitroff said. "We continue to have our negotiations. I'm confident, I don't have an exact timeline, but I'm not concerned about it, he's not concerned about it ... It's just a matter of where it's all going to land. As you know, you get a little creative and see how it is. I think it's around the corner."
