Julio Jones: 'Might Mess Around And Go' For 3,000 Yards

Jul 26, 2019 8:37 AM

Julio Jones is still looking for a new contract from the Atlanta Falcons.

However, that doesn't mean he hasn't set some goals for myself this season.

"I'm not ever going to lie to you, I'm going crazy this year," Jones said. "I'm going crazy. I've been doing everything that I need to do. I'm taking care of my body. Physically and mentally, I'll be ready to go."

When pressed on whether "going crazy" meant 2,000 yards, something no receiver in the history of the NFL has accomplished, Jones elaborated.

"Well, I'm not a prediction-type guy, but I might mess around and go three (thousand), you know what I'm talking about," Jones said with a straight face.

Calvin Johnson owns the single-season receiving record with 1,964 yards in 2012.

Falcons Looking For Austin Hooper To Go To 'Another Level'

Jul 17, 2019 9:37 AM

Austin Hooper is coming off a Pro Bowl season, but the Atlanta Falcons are hoping for even more from the tight end.

Hooper set career-highs in catches, yards and touchdowns in 2018. The Falcons have brought Mike Mularkey on as their tight ends coach.

"Hooper, the improvement just keeps getting better," Dan Quinn said. "Now, he's ready to go to another level, and I’m looking forward to seeing him make that growth. The addition of having Mike here, he's done everything that Mike has asked in terms of getting him ready. That connection has been good."

Julio Jones Won't Hold Out For New Deal

Jul 10, 2019 8:29 AM

Julio Jones trusts Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank and says he won't sit out as he awaits a new contract.

"Mr. Blank gave us his word," Jones said. "That's golden. ... [Blank's] word is that it's going to get done. ... There's no stress on my end. I'm not thinking about it.

"[Blank] makes it easy for me to go out and just work every day and not have one of those situations where there's a holdout or anything like that."

The Falcons have insisted several times this offseason they plan to give Jones a new contract.

Jones has two years left on his contract worth $9.6 million and $11.426 million, respectively.
