Matt Ryan Excited To Work With Dirk Koetter Again

Jan 30, 2019 9:38 AM

The Atlanta Falcons have made changes to their offensive staff yet again, but Matt Ryan is welcoming the new voices.

Dirk Koetter is back as the team's offensive coordinator. He held the position from 2012-14.

Ryan said on 680 The Fan that it is “hard” to see Steve Sarkisian leave the team, but that feeling is tempered by positive feelings about Koetter’s return to Atlanta.

“I’m excited to work with Dirk Koetter again, it felt like my time spent with him early in my career was really productive,” Ryan said. “I’ve learned a lot since then, and I think we both can be better as we move forward. But, it’s one of the parts of the job that sucks, for sure. Letting people go and having new people come in and turnover, but it’s a part of this business and you have to deal with it.”

Falcons Hire Dirk Koetter As Offensive Coordinator

Jan 8, 2019 5:54 PM

The Atlanta Falcons have hired Dirk Koetter as offensive coordinator.

Koetter was offensive coordinator of the Falcons from 2012 to 2014.

Matt Ryan praised Koetter in the past for enhancing his game.

"Dirk taught me a lot about being confident in what we do," Ryan said before the 2016 season opener. "I think he believed in -- and rightfully so because, at the time, we had a lot of really good players -- he believed if I was comfortable with it, go. It made me take ownership of what I liked, what I didn't like. He pushed me to be better in that department."

Koetter was fired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason.

Dan Quinn interviewed Koetter, Mike Mularkey and Darrell Bevell for the job after firing Steve Sarkisian.

Broncos Deny Requests From Falcons, Bengals To Interview Gary Kubiak

Jan 6, 2019 3:20 PM

The Denver Broncos are blocking rival teams from interviewing Gary Kubiak for offensive coordinator openings.

Both the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals have reached out to the Broncos to interview Kubiak.

Kubiak currently works as a senior personnel adviser with the Broncos.

The Broncos would like to keep Kubiak and have him work with their new head coach. Kubiak would like to stay in Denver anyway, sources said.

Kubiak stepped away from coaching after the 2016 season, citing health issues.
