Mercedes-Benz Stadium To Have Chick-Fil-A Stand Closed On Sundays

Aug 16, 2017 12:57 PM

Mercedes-Benz Stadium has a Chick-fil-A but it won't be open on Sundays when the Atlanta Falcons typically play.

Seven of the Falcons’ eight regular season home games are on Sunday this season, the exception being a tilt against the Saints on Dec. 7, a Thursday night.

Chick-fil-A has been closed on Sundays since 1946 on orders from founder Truett Cathy.

Atlanta restaurateur and former ‘‘Top Chef’’ contestant Kevin Gillespie will be selling his COS (closed on Sunday) chicken sandwich from a stand on the 200 concourse.

‘‘The fast-food chain Chick-fil-A is based here in Atlanta,’’ Gillespie wrote on his website along with a COS recipe. ‘‘They’re closed on Sunday for religious reasons. I respect that. But why is it that I crave a Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich almost exclusively on Sundays? It’s like clockwork. I wake up on Sunday morning and think, ‘You know what would be really good right now? A Chick-fil-A sandwich.’ Like most food companies, they guard their secret recipe. But it’s a breaded fried chicken breast on a bun with pickles. I figured I could come up with something pretty close.’’

Devonta Freeman In NFL's Concussion Protocl

Aug 14, 2017 10:06 PM

Devonta Freeman is in the NFL's concussion protocol after displaying symptoms on Sunday.

"After taking him inside yesterday where we thought he had heat related (issues), he reported that he had some concussion symptoms," Dan Quinn said, per the Atlanta Journal Constitution. "So, we put him in the protocol for that. He'll be out this week. He may start practicing as we, but we are going to rule him out now."

Freeman could miss the remainder of the preseason.

The Atlanta Falcons recently signed Freeman to a five-year, $41.25 million extension.

Six RBs Have Had Higher APY Contracts Than Devonta Freeman

Aug 10, 2017 7:47 PM

While Devonta Freeman has the NFL's richest average per year contract for a running back, there are six other players who have had a better number than him during their career.

Adrian Peterson, Chris Johnson, Steven Jackson, DeAngelo Williams, Arian Foster and Marshawn Lynch each had a higher average per year amount.

The signing, while lucrative, perhaps shows that the market for running back salaries is depressed in today's NFL.

Freeman signed a five-year, $41.25 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons this week.

Devonta Freeman Agrees To $41.25M Extension With Falcons

Aug 10, 2017 10:50 AM

Devonta Freeman has agreed upon a five-year extension with the Atlanta Falcons worth $41.25 million and includes a $15 million signing bonus.

In terms of average per year, Freeman's $8.25 average would exceed any current running back with multi-year deals. Pittsburgh's Le'Veon Bell with make $12.12 million this year under the one-year franchise tag.

"We are very pleased that we were able to get this extension done," Thomas Dimitroff said. "Devonta embodies everything we are looking for in a Falcon, and we are proud that he'll be able to spend his career here in Atlanta."

Freeman has amassed 3,175 yards from scrimmage and 27 touchdowns over the last two seasons.

Jalen Collins Suspended 10 Games By NFL For PED Violation

Aug 6, 2017 6:09 PM

Jalen Collins will be suspended 10 games for a violation of the NFL's rules on performance enhancers.

Collins, a second-round pick in 2015, has said he failed drug tests at LSU.

Collins started six games last season and had two interceptions. He moved into the lineup after star cornerback Desmond Trufant was placed on IR with a torn pectoral muscle.

"We are extremely disappointed that for the second straight season we are dealing with a suspension for Jalen," Thomas Dimitroff said in a statement released by the team. "Such are the consequences when certain choices are made. Our decisions going forward will be based on what Dan and I feel is best for the team."
