Roddy White Was Frustrated By Kyle Shanahan

Mar 6, 2016 9:11 PM

Roddy White had a shaky relationship with Atlanta Falcons' offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.

White was recently released by the Falcons.

"No, I ain't frustrated at all; it is what it is," White said. "That's just the NFL. Eventually, it's going to be your time. It's just according to when it happens.

"They showed no indication that I was going to be there, so I kind of expected it already. Like last year going through the whole situation, I knew I was going to be on the team because they said I was going to be on the team. But this year, they didn't say that. They never gave any clear indication I was going to be there. When there's no clarity early on about decisions like that, that means you already have a 50/50 chance, so I was just thinking to myself that it can only get worse."

White had a diminished role under Shanahan.

White expressed displeasure with his role, saying he did not want to be just a "blocker."

"What [Shanahan] expected from me and what I expected from him was totally different," White said. "I expected to play a bigger role in the offense, and that's what I wanted to do. But he didn't have that in his desires. He had other people that he wanted to play my role, so he wanted me to be out of the [offense]. That was the whole thing. And it is what it is. I can't do nothing about it. I can't change his way of thinking or anything like that. I can just do what I did, which was just handle my business and get myself prepared for this moment."

Falcons' Coach Asked Prospect At Combine If He's Gay

Mar 4, 2016 6:07 PM

Eli Apple was asked by a coach of the Atlanta Falcons if he's gay during a meeting at the scouting combine.

Apple described the meeting Friday during an interview with Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, although he did not identify the coach.

"The Falcons coach, one of the coaches, was like, 'So do you like men?'" Apple told Comcast SportsNet. "It was like the first thing he asked me. It was weird. I was just like, 'No.' He was like, 'If you're going to come to Atlanta, sometimes that's how it is around here. You're going to have to get used to it.'

"I guess he was joking, but they just ask most of these questions to see how you're going to react."

Dan Quinn also released a statement, acknowledging the incident.

"I am really disappointed in the question that was asked by one of our coaches," Quinn said. "I have spoken to the coach that interviewed Eli Apple and explained to him how inappropriate and unprofessional this was. I have reiterated this to the entire coaching staff and I want to apologize to Eli for this even coming up. This is not what the Atlanta Falcons are about and it is not how we are going to conduct ourselves."

Roddy White Released By Falcons

Mar 2, 2016 5:26 PM

Roddy White has been released by the Atlanta Falcons with two seasons remaining on his current deal.

White, who is out of the country, declined to discuss the details of his release. He did relay this message to Falcons fans: "I love them. I enjoyed. And it was fun.''

In a text to ESPN's Josina Anderson, White said he wants to play in the NFL "another year or 2."

White was due to make $4.25 million in 2016 with a high salary cap figure of $6,137,500. He previously said he had no desire to take a paycut.

His release provides a cap savings of just $2,362,500 in 2016.

"Roddy is one of the greatest players to ever put on a Falcons uniform, and even more importantly he is a man of tremendous character that I and my entire family have profound personal affection and respect for," Falcons owner Arthur Blank said in a statement Wednesday.
