Julio Jones Not Holding Out While Seeking Long-Term Extension

May 27, 2015 12:48 PM

Julio Jones is seeking a new long-term contract extension with the Atlanta Falcons, but he decided not to skip OTAs this week.

Jones was not expected to hold out after Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said earlier this month that the receiver's contract status loomed as a top priority after the draft.

The Falcons picked up Jones' fifth-year option for 2015 and could slap him with the franchise tag in 2016 if a deal can't be worked out.

Blank Sees Strong Chemistry Between Quinn, Dimitroff Building Falcons

May 18, 2015 4:19 PM

Arthur Blank is pleased with the chemistry developing between new head coach Dan Quinn and incumbent general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

When Quinn was hired, Blank said the new coach would have final say over the 53-man roster while collaborating with Dimitroff on personnel.

"I think it's working great," Blank said. "There is tremendous respect both ways. They're working off each other; playing off each other's strengths. They're both good listeners to each other and to others. And I think the dynamic has worked out as well as anybody could have possibly thought.

"I think Thomas and Scott have worked beautifully together as well. So I'm very happy with all of that."

Bruce Irvin Says He'll Join Falcons In 2016

May 14, 2015 1:30 PM

Bruce Irvin has publicly said he'll join the Atlanta Falcons in 2016.

The Seattle Seahawks didn't pick up their fifth-year option on Irvin's contract, which would have cost $7.8 million. Irvin is playing this season at $1.6 million.

The Falcons hired former Seahawks' defensive coordinator Dan Quinn as head coach. Irvin is also from Atlanta.

"I'm going to be in Atlanta next season," Irvin told BlackSportsOnline.com while attending the Eastern Conference semifinals in Atlanta on Wednesday night. "I'm ready."

Falcons Would Like To Extend Julio Jones

May 11, 2015 12:26 PM

The Atlanta Falcons would like to sign Julio Jones to an extension.

“That’s where we’ll continue to focus right now,” Thomas Dimitroff said, via D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “He’s an important part of making sure that we get things accomplished in the relatively near future.”

Jones is playing out his fifth-year option.

Tagging Jones for 2016 would cost the Falcons around $13 million.

La'el Collins Meets With Cowboys; Dolphins Next

May 7, 2015 1:18 PM

La'el Collins met with the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday and will meet with the Miami Dolphins in the next 24 hours.

The Dolphins had several former LSU teammates such as Jarvis Landry and Anthony Johnson visit Collins on campus.

Collins went undrafted last week after police in Baton Rouge said they wanted to speak to him as part of their investigation into the murders of Brittney Mills and her infant child. Police spoke to Collins on Monday and said he was not a suspect in the case. A paternity test also showed that Collins was not the father of the child.

Collins also had dinner with Rex Ryan of the Buffalo Bills this week, while the Atlanta Falcons and Indianapolis Colts are also interested.
