Falcons Utilizing Screen Pass Under New OC Koetter

Oct 31, 2014 10:06 AM

The Atlanta Falcons called three screen passes in Week 1, including one from Matt Ryan to Julio Jones that went for a touchdown.

The Falcons called only 20 screens in all of 2011, completing 16 of them for 68 yards and no touchdowns. Atlanta is on pace to nearly double their output.

Mike Mularkey didn't believe in the effectiveness of the screen pass, but new offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter clearly sees its benefit.

Falcons' Vaunted CB Trio Lasts One Game, Brent Grimes Out For Season

Jul 6, 2014 3:46 AM

The Atlanta Falcons will be without one of the better cornerbacks for the remainder of the season as Brent Grimes will need surgery on his injured Achilles tendon.

Grimes was a Pro Bowler in 2010.

The Falcons were hoping Grimes, Asante Samuel and Dunta Robinson would give the defense one of the best secondaries in the pass-happy NFC South. All three players were on the field together for all but 11 plays in Atlanta's Week 1 win.
