Falcons May Target QB In Seventh Round

Oct 15, 2014 11:39 PM

The Falcons have spent 25 draft picks since selecting Matt Ryan in 2008 and none have been on quarterbacks. Ryan is coming off his first Pro Bowl and Chris Redman is entrenched as their backup, so the position isn't a high priority. However, Atlanta has three seventh-round pick this month and could use one of the selections to grab a quarterback. Redman is entering the final season of his contract and John Parker Wilson lacks NFL experience.

Parcells: Dolphins Should Have Taken Ryan In 2008

Sep 6, 2014 11:36 PM

Bill Parcells, no longer a member of Miami's front office, reflected on some of the decisions he helped make during his time with the franchise. For starters, Parcells believes the Dolphins should have drafted quarterback Matt Ryan back in 2008 over offensive tackle Jake Long. "Maybe, we should have (drafted Ryan instead)," Parcells told The Miami Herald. Long has become a three-time Pro Bowl selection and taken a leadership role, but the team still has question marks at quarterback. Parcells also told the Herald that the decision to take quarterback Pat White in the second round of the 2009 draft "violated our principles." "He just wasn't a prototypical quarterback pick," Parcells said. "He was a great college player, and we let that color our judgment."

Gonzalez Again Hints At Retirement If Lockout Lingers

Sep 2, 2014 2:26 AM

Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez has once again hinted at retirement should the NFL's current work stoppage linger. Specifically, he'll likely retire if the entire 2011 season is lost. "That would be devastating because I don't want to go out like that," Gonzalez said Tuesday in a sitdown with Rich Eisen on "NFL Total Access." Gonzalez added that he feels great physically, but he doesn't know how his body would react if it were forced out of football for a year. "That would be the only reason I would more than likely not come back," Gonzalez said. "If we miss the whole season and I have to sit out a year, I just think, at 35, sitting out a whole year of football and waiting for it to come back, I just don't know if my body could. I just want to be smart about it."

Gonzalez Likely To Retire If 2011 Season Is Wiped Out

Sep 19, 2014 6:26 AM

Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez will likely retire if the 2011 season is lost due to the NFL's work stoppage. "Would I sit out a whole season and come back — probably not, honestly," Gonzalez told the Sporting News. "At this point, at my age, I don't know if that would be smart of me to do something like that. But I'm enjoying the offseason, working out and preparing like I always do." However, Gonzalez is hoping that it doesn't get to that point. "I think it might cut into camp," Gonzalez said. "Into the season, I doubt it. Who knows though? Hopefully we can get these issues resolved. The arguments from the owners' perspective are a little outrageous to me. It's the No. 1 game in the world. I think there are so many ways you could structure a deal. "Maybe there are too many chiefs, not enough Indians. Maybe we should get one or two representatives from each side to hammer it out. But between the owners and the players, that's a lot of different opinions and that's why the process is going so slow. That's why I don't think it's going to be resolved anytime soon. But I just don't see an entire season being taken away."
