Vick Will Plead Guilty To State Dogfighting Charge

Jun 22, 2014 9:02 PM

Michael Vick plans to plead guilty to state dogfighting charges next week, a move that could allow him to qualify for an early release from prison. In court papers filed in Surry County Court, Vick's attorneys are seeking to have Vick enter his plea by video teleconference. The papers also note that the plea would save the government the expense of transporting Vick to Surry, and satisfy the county's need to hold him accountable for the crimes he bankrolled and participated in at a rural house he owned there.

Blank Wants Vick Back In NFL, But Not With Falcons

Nov 14, 2014 10:55 AM

Falcons' owner Arthur Blank wants to see quarterback Michael Vick back in the NFL but not in Atlanta. "He?s written me, and I?ve answered him," Blank told ESPN.com. "I certainly wish Michael well in the future. I believe in second chances. I believe in third chances. That doesn?t mean I believe in forever chances. But I do believe he?s capable of redemption and learning from his mistakes." Blank went on to commit to rookie Matt Ryan. "We?re committed to Matt," Blank also told ESPN.com. "Even before his early success, we were committed to Matt Ryan. We made that decision when we drafted him. When you select someone in the draft at that level and pay him what we?re paying him, you expect him to be successful, and you expect him to be a team leader."

Falcons Enter Top-5 In RealGM's Team Rankings

May 25, 2014 8:47 PM

The scoreboard is where games are officially won and lost, but they are largely decided by the team that wins the battles of yards per pass, yards per carry, penalty yards lost, first downs, and turnovers. For this reason, I created the following formula called the ?Trench Counter? to look at which team truly controls the game: (2x Yards per pass) + (2x Yards per carry) + (.5 First downs) - (Penalty yards/10) - (2.5 Turnovers) - (Opposing Team's Trench Counter) Click here for more information on the Trench Counter For the 2008 season, our weekly team rankings will be based solely off this formula. 1. New York Giants: 9.1 The Giants got lucky against Cincinnati and that Ohio luck ran out in Cleveland largely due to Eli Manning?s three interceptions. 2. Philadelphia Eagles: 8.8 The Eagles were 6-for-12 on 3rd down, compared to just 2-for-12 for the 49ers. The Eagles were down 17-26 to start the 4th quarter, but a L.J. Smith TD, three David Akers' field goals, and a cherry on top Juqua Parker interception for a touchdown gave the Eagles a 40-26 victory that probably looks a little better on Monday than it did on Sunday. 3. Pittsburgh Steelers: 8.0 The Steelers needed that bye week to get healthy and should get a nice tune up against the Bengals before an extremely difficult run against the Giants, Redskins, Colts, and Chargers. 4. Washington Redskins: 7.4 The Redskins finally turned the ball over against the Rams, and it ended with a loss in a game they should have won with tremendous ease. 5. Atlanta Falcons: 5.0 Mike Mularkey?s offense was just good enough to get Jason Elam into range for five field goals and one miss. Matt Ryan and the Falcons are 4-2 and could once again be the NFC South's worst to first team. 6. Tennessee Titans: 4.8 Coming out of the bye week, the Titans need to improve their 3.6 yards per carry average, which is 28th in the NFL. 7. Dallas Cowboys: 4.8 Would Terrell Owens complain about his touches if pundits talked about his TD-creating blocks as his TD-creating passes? I?m not sure Owens will get many looks from Brad Johnson on those short crossing routes if he still can?t get off the line of scrimmage bumps. 8. Minnesota Vikings: 4.6 Adrian Peterson rushed for over 100 yards for the first time since Week 2 against the Colts on Sunday. 9. Miami Dolphins: 3.9 Patrick Cobbs won?t score two long touchdowns every week, so the Dolphins missed a great opportunity to steal another road win. 10. San Diego Chargers: 3.9 Philip Rivers averaged a very good 11.3 yards per pass against the Patriots. Without a truly reliable running game, the Chargers are leaning on Rivers more than ever. 11. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 3.9 The shocking Warrick Dunn resurgence continues, as he had 115 yards on 22 carries and three receptions for 18 yards against the Panthers. 12. Carolina Panthers: 3.0 DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart were held to 2.5 and 2.0 yards per carry apiece. 13. Baltimore Ravens: 2.2 Teams with rookie quarterbacks won?t win many games when they have to throw the ball 38 times even if they do complete 28 of those passes. Playing from behind doesn?t suit Joe Flacco or the Ravens. 14. Arizona Cardinals: 1.9 Steve Breaston is averaging 100.3 receiving yards per game over the past three weeks. 15. Buffalo Bills: 1.4 Buffalo?s -3 takeaway/giveaway differential is 13th in the AFC and will catch up with them against teams other than the Rams and Raiders. 16. Chicago Bears: 1.2 The Bears held Michael Turner to just 2.2 yards per carry, but the secondary yielded 301 yards to Matt Ryan without forcing an interception (White: 112, Douglas: 96, Jenkins: 58). 17. Denver Broncos: 1.2 The Broncos have been outplayed in each of their past four games (five if you count the Chargers) and haven?t been nearly as good as advertised, especially on defense. 18. New York Jets: 0.6 Thomas Jones had two rushing TD's and one reception for a TD to give him three for the day. 19. New Orleans Saints: 0.4 Drew Brees? 26-for-30 for 320 yards and three TD's is about as efficient of a performance from a quarterback as you will ever see. 20. San Francisco 49ers: -0.6 Since his two impressive performances in wins against Seattle and Detroit, J.T. O?Sullivan has had passer ratings of 59.6, 55.9, and 49.2 in the last three weeks. 21. Indianapolis Colts: -0.8 Is Peyton Manning finally back? He was 19-for-28 for three TDs against a very good Ravens' defense. But even more promising is Marvin Harrison?s day and his two TD's. 22. Green Bay Packers: -2.2 Greg Jennings had more yards receiving (84) than the entire Seahawks (83). 23. Jacksonville Jaguars: -2.8 The Jaguars are 2-0 when Maurice Jones-Drew rushes for over 100 yards in 2008. 24. Houston Texans: -2.9 The Texans had 11 more first downs and 115 more total yards but nearly gave the game away to the Dolphins with a -3 turnover differential. 25. New England Patriots: -4.2 Staying in California all week or not, the Patriots were terribly outplayed by the Chargers. 26. Cleveland Browns: -5.4 This was truly the break-out game that Braylon Edwards needed, with five catches for 154 yards. 27. Cincinnati Bengals: -7.8 Ryan Fitzpatrick had a 71.8 passer rating against the Jets. 28. Seattle Seahawks: -8.2 Charlie Frye had a 53.4 passer rating against Green Bay, and Matt Hasselbeck won?t be available for the Tampa Bay game. 29. Kansas City Chiefs: -9.5 The Chiefs have just 71 first downs but a halfway respectable 3rd down success rate of 38.7. 30. Oakland Raiders: -10.5 The Raiders were able to neutralize Reggie Bush as a punt returner, but he scored from 3-yards out and also on a 15-yard pass from Drew Brees. 31. Detroit Lions: -12.6 I thought Peter King was being especially hard on the Dan Orlovsky end zone gaffe, but there was no denying that it looked like a Pop Warner play that a 12-year-old would be embarrassed about. 32. St. Louis Rams: -15.0 How does a team get their first win despite recording only eight first downs and getting outrushed 2-to-1 and recording only 4.8 yards per pass? Chip away enough for three field goals and convert a 75-yard TD on a fumble recovery.

RealGM?s Week Six Rundown: Field Goals Aplenty

Jun 11, 2014 2:34 PM

Chances are you saw a majority of the thirteen games played on Sunday in the NFL?s Week Six, but there is no need to worry if you weren?t taking in all of the action. RealGM is here to help summarize all that went down as NFL teams took the field in the second weekend of October. We will also showcase each game's top FIC* (field impact counter) performers using RealGM editor Chris Reina's innovative statistical system, and calculate each team?s Trench Counter**. St. Louis 19, Washington 17 Team Trench Counter: Rams -15.2, Redskins +15.2 The St. Louis Rams (1-4) won their first game of the season on Sunday in a thrilling battle against the Washington Redskins (4-2). The Rams were horrible offensively, managing four field goals, but the defense had their best effort of the season at FedEx Field. O.J. Atogwe scored the only touchdown of the game for St. Louis, on a 75-yard fumble return in the second quarter. Marc Bulger went 15-for-26 with 136 yards in the win, while Steven Jackson had 79 yards on twenty-two carries against the Redskins. In addition to the punt return by Atogwe, the Rams sacked Jason Campbell three times and forced three fumbles. Campbell went 18-for-26 with 208 yards in the loss, while Clinton Portis had 129 yards and two touchdowns as Washington?s lone offensive star. After trailing early, the Redskins rallied to take a 17-16 lead with less than four minutes remaining. After Bulger charged the Rams up the field, Josh Brown hit a 49-yard field goal to win the game. Game FIC Scores - Jason Campbell, WSH: 25 - Marc Bulger, STL: 8 - Clinton Portis, WSH: 62 - Steven Jackson, STL: 32 - Donnie Avery, STL: 41 - Santana Moss, WSH: 13 - Chris Cooley, WSH: 29 Tampa Bay 27, Carolina 3 Team Trench Counter: Buccaneers +11.2, Panthers -11.2 Jeff Garcia helped lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2) to an impressive victory over the Carolina Panthers (4-2) at Raymond James Stadium. Garcia went 15-for-20 with 173 yards and a touchdown, while Warrick Dunn rushed for 115 yards against Carolina?s tough defense. Tampa Bay?s secondary bothered Jake Delhomme all afternoon long, intercepting him three times. Delhomme went 20-for-39 with 242 yards, throwing often as the Panthers trailed early. The Buccaneers got on the board early when Geno Hayes returned a blocked punt 22 yards for a touchdown just a few minutes into the game. Carolina wasn?t able to recover following the botched punt, with a field goal in the second quarter marking their only score. Steve Smith caught six passes for 112 yards, but DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart combined for just 39 rushing yards in the loss. Game FIC Scores - Jeff Garcia, TB: 23 - Jake Delhomme, CAR: 15 - Earnest Graham, TB: 31 - Steve Smith, CAR: 62 N.Y. Jets 26, Cincinnati 14 Team Trench Counter: Jets +2.4, Bengals -2.4 The Cincinnati Bengals (0-6) are still winless after losing to the New York Jets (3-2) at Giants Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday. Thomas Jones starred for the Jets, with 78 total yards and three touchdowns. Brett Favre didn?t play his best, going 25-for-33 with 189 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, but the Jets won their third game of the season regardless. Ryan Fitzpatrick, starting in place of the injured Carson Palmer, went 20-for-33 with 152 yards. Fitzgerald also rushed for 23 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Chris Perry and Cedric Benson struggled on the ground, totaling just 20 yards on fifteen combined carries. Both quarterbacks fumbled once, but the only other touchdown Cincinnati managed was a 15-yard fumble return by Chinedum Ndukwe less than two minutes into the game. Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh combined for 106 receiving yards in defeat. Game FIC Scores - Brett Favre, NYJ: 19 - Ryan Fitzpatrick, CIN: 18 - Thomas Jones, NYJ: 40 - Jerricho Cotchery, NYJ: 51 - Chad Johnson, CIN: 34 New Orleans 34, Oakland 3 Team Trench Counter: Saints +22.9, Raiders -22.9 The New Orleans Saints (3-3) drubbed the Oakland Raiders (1-4) to ruin the coaching debut of Tom Cable. Drew Brees excelled, going 26-for-30 with 320 yards and three touchdowns, while JaMarcus Russell struggled mightily. Russell went 13-for-35 with 159 yards, an interception and a fumble in the loss. Reggie Bush made history in the win, tying Anquan Boldin by grabbing the 200th completion of his career in just his 34th game. Bush had 67 total yards and two touchdowns, with Lance Moore leading the Saints in receiving (97 yards) once again. Justin Fargas and Darren McFadden combined for 65 rushing yards, as a field goal in the first quarter marked the Raiders' only points of the game. Sebastian Janikowski, who gave Oakland a 3-0 lead with the aforementioned field goal, missed a pair of kicks that would have only altered the final score of the game. Game FIC Scores - Drew Brees, NO: 50 - JaMarcus Russell, OAK: 8 - Reggie Bush, NO: 31 - Lance Moore, NO: 56 - Billy Miller, NO: 30 Minnesota 12, Detroit 10 Team Trench Counter: Vikings +5.1, Lions -5.1 The Minnesota Vikings (3-3) kept the Detroit Lions (0-5) from notching their first win of the season with a late field goal by Ryan Longwell. Adrian Peterson, who lost a pair of fumbles, rushed for 111 yards, while Bernard Berrian caught five passes for 131 yards and a touchdown in the thrilling victory. Dan Orlovsky, starting for Jon Kitna (bad back), went 12-for-21 with 150 yards and a touchdown, but handed Minnesota a safety in the first quarter when he stepped on the out of bounds line in the back of his own end zone. Calvin Johnson had 85 yards and a touchdown, helping provide a security blanket for Orlovsky in his first start. The Vikings recorded six sacks, and won the game on Longwell?s 26-yard field goal with just nine seconds left in the game. Peyton Manning went 19-for-28 with 271 yards and three touchdowns, connecting with Reggie Wayne for 118 yards and one trip to the end zone. Dominic Rhodes rushed twenty-five times for 73 yards and a touchdown, as Joseph Addai struggled (3 rushing yards) and left with a hamstring injury in the first quarter. Indianapolis was tough on defense as well, recording four sacks, three interceptions and two forced fumbles. Joe Flacco struggled mightily, going 28-for-38 with 241 yards and three turnovers. Ray Rice and Willis McGahee combined for 41 rushing yards on fourteen carries. Andre Johnson caught ten passes for 178 yards and a score in the victory. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams combined for 96 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and Chad Pennington went 19-for-25 with 284 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Three of Pennington?s completions went to Patrick Cobbs, who had 138 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Roddy White caught nine passes from Ryan, tallying 112 yards and a score in the win. Rookie running back Matt Forte had 76 yards and a touchdown, while Devin Hester continued his success as a receiver with six receptions for 87 yards for the Bears. After Orton hooked up with Davis to seemingly win the game, Ryan completed a 26-yard pass to Michael Jenkins that got the Falcons into field goal range after a poor kickoff by Chicago?s Robbie Gould. David Garrard looked like the 2007 version of himself, going 25-for-34 with 276 yards and a touchdown. Maurice Jones-Drew was the offensive star of the game, rushing for 125 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win. Marcedes Lewis led the Jaguars in receiving, catching three passes for 64 yards and a score. Jay Cutler went 21-for-37 with 192 yards, two touchdowns and an interception as the Broncos climbed into too big of a hole to come back from heading into the fourth quarter. Michael Pittman had 109 yards on twenty carries, and Brandon Marshall lead Denver in receiving with 98 yards on nine catches. Both teams lost a pair of fumbles in the game, with Jacksonville?s Drayton Florence returning one eighteen yards to change the momentum of the game in the second quarter. Charlie Frye, starting in the wake of an injury to Matt Hasselbeck, went 12-for-23 with just 83 yards, two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions. Julius Jones had 44 yards on twelve carries and no receiver had more than 23 yards in Seattle?s loss. Frye was sacked three times as Green Bay pestered him all afternoon long. Donovan McNabb went 23-for-36 with 280 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, while Correll Buckhalter had 178 total yards and a touchdown in the absence of Brian Westbrook (two broken ribs). The Philadelphia defense awoke in the fourth to force a punt, a fumble and two interceptions. J.T. O?Sullivan went 17-for-30 with 199 yards and the two picks, as Frank Gore dominated on the ground, rushing for 101 yards and a touchdown. In addition to his two interceptions, Sullivan fumbled in the fourth as Philadelphia defense was lights out over the final fifteen minutes. Tight end Vernon Davis had his best game of the season for the 49ers, catching six passes for 75 yards to lead his team in receiving. Game FIC Scores - Donovan McNabb, PHI: 35 - J.T. Edgerrin James and Tim Hightower combined for 49 rushing yards, while Steve Breaston (102 yards and a touchdown) and Larry Fitzgerald (79 yards and a score) enjoyed good games as well. Monty Beisel blocked Mat McBriar?s punt after a three-and-out by Dallas to start the extra period to win the game for the Cardinals. Tony Romo, who fumbled three times and lost one, went 24-for-38 with 321 yards and three touchdowns. Romo appeared to fumble in the end zone in the second quarter, and the ball was recovered by Arizona for what would have been a touchdown, but the play was reviewed and ruled an incomplete pass. Marion Barber excelled with 173 total yards and a touchdown. With just a few seconds left in the fourth quarter, Romo completed a pass to Jason Witten that went for 30 yards to Arizona?s 39-yard line. Romo spiked the ball to stop the clock, and the Cardinals were penalized five yards for defensive offside. That moved Dallas into Nick Folk?s range for a 52-yard field goal that only kept the Cowboys? chances alive momentarily. Game FIC Scores - Tony Romo, DAL: 38 - Kurt Warner, ARI: 28 - Marion Barber, DAL: 86 - Tim Hightower, ARI: 22 - Steve Breaston, ARI: 64 - Larry Fitzgerald, ARI: 50 - Jason Witten, DAL: 32 San Diego 30, New England 10 Team Trench Counter: Chargers +17, Patriots -17 The San Diego Chargers (3-3) helped avenge their loss to the New England Patriots (3-2) in January's AFC Championship Game thanks to tremendous play from Philip Rivers. Rivers went 18-for-27 with 306 yards and three touchdowns, while LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 74 yards on twenty carries in the victory. San Diego sacked Matt Cassel four times, and the Patriots weren't able to reach the end zone until the end of the fourth quarter when Sammy Morris scored on a 1-yard run. Cassel went 22-for-38 with 203 yards and an interception, he only averaged 5.3 yards per pass. Wes Welker led New England with 73 receiving yards on nine catches, while Randy Moss was limited to 26 yards on just three grabs. Giants 14 Team Trench Counter: Browns +7.1, Giants -7.1 The Cleveland Browns (2-3) may have taken a step in the right direction after handing the New York Giants (4-1) their first loss of the season on Monday night. Derek Anderson went 18-for-29 with 310 yards and two touchdowns, outplaying Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, who went 18-for-28 with 196 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. The Giants moved the ball well on offense, but were only able to reach the end zone twice because of Manning's miscues. Jamal Lewis rushed for 88 yards and a score for the Browns, while Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward combined for 168 yards and a touchdown for the Giants. Braylon Edwards had his best game of the season, catching five passes for 154 yards and a score in the win. *The NFL Reina Value **Explaining The Trench Counter
