Falcons Cut Peerless

Oct 4, 2014 2:50 AM

The Atlanta Falcons cut Peerless Price on Tuesday, giving up on their former top receiver after two disappointing seasons. Price signed a $37 million contract, including a $10 million bonus, with the Falcons, who acquired him from the Buffalo Bills in a March 2003 trade that cost Atlanta a first-round draft pick. Price was coming off a career season with the Bills, catching 94 passes for 1,252 passes and nine touchdowns in 2002, and was expected to give Michael Vick a go-to receiver. But the move never worked out. Price had only 45 catches and three touchdowns last season, and he was demoted to second team behind Michael Jenkins coming into training camp. When Price suffered a concussion in a preseason game, his fate was sealed. "It's just not a good fit here," coach Jim Mora said. "That's the bottom line. It's my hope that he'll go on and be productive with another team."

Falcons D Among The Leagues Elite

There can be no questions on the Atlanta Falcons defense this season. Well maybe one. Are they the best in the NFL? They are certainly looking better on paper than last year's bunch. That bunch shut down teams as good as anybody else did. Yes, the Pittsburgh Steelers was the top defense last year. All signs look like they are in line to do that once again. They say defense wins championships. If that is true, we might can pencil in the Steelers and Falcons for that game. You know, the one that is played in late January. Before this group can be talked in the same breath as the Boys from Steel Town. They might need to play their first game as a unit first. The names and possibilites are all there. It's just a matter if they can all stay healthy, and gel as a team.

Going To The ATL?

Jul 23, 2014 8:41 PM

Unhappy with his contract and sent home for a week by the Eagles, Terrell Owens attended the Atlanta Falcons' preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens at the Georgia Dome. The receiver has a home in Atlanta and plenty of time on his hands after getting kicked out of Eagles camp, the fallout from a heated dispute with coach Andy Reid. He can't return to camp until Wednesday, but has made it clear he won't be happy without a new contract. Philadelphia has steadfastly refused to redo the seven-year, $49 million deal that Owens signed before last season. Owens, who was sitting four rows behind the Falcons bench, declined comment when approached by a reporter.
