Larry Fitzgerald Remains Guarded On When He May Retire

Jul 23, 2017 5:03 PM

Larry Fitzgerald has dodged questions on whether he will retire from the NFL after the 2017 season. But Fitzgerald knows when he does retire, he will do so without tears.

"I feel good right now," Fitzgerald said. "When that changes, I'll let you know."

Fitzgerald enters 2017 third all-time in receptions.

"That's not how I am," he said. "I'm just one player out of 1,600 in the National Football League and it's a lot bigger than me. It's never going to be like that."

Fitzgerald said this summer he'll address his future once during training camp.

"The end is never really pretty for elite athletes," Fitzgerald said. "It never looks good for the most time. You watch Michael Jordan in a Washington Wizards uniform or see Tony Dorsett playing for the Denver Broncos or Shaquille O'Neal playing for the Boston Celtics. It's weird because you're used to seeing them play at their most dominant stage, or Willie Mays running around with bad knees 20 years in. It's not pretty but for me, I really want to be able to play and do things at a high level and be able to walk away and still be someone who can play at a high level."

Chris Johnson Re-Signs With Cardinals

Jul 20, 2017 8:13 PM

The Arizona Cardinals have agreed to sign Chris Johnson to a one-year deal.

Johnson was placed on injured reserve last season after suffering a groin injury in Week 4 that required surgery. He wasn't chosen by coach Bruce Arians to return late in the season, and he finished with 95 rushing yards and one touchdown on 25 carries.

Johnson will be David Johnson's backup.

Bruce Arians: Carson Palmer Overworked Arm Before Last Season

Jul 23, 2017 5:03 PM

Bruce Arians says Carson Palmer dealt with a fatigued throwing arm last season.

Palmer had an up-and-down 2016 campaign.

"He's one of the hardest working dudes I've ever been around, so we have to pull the reins back on him," Arians told The Rich Eisen Show. "Last year, he came in to September, he had already wore his arm out by overthrowing all summer. We found a nice regimen, [and by] November and December he was playing as good as he's ever played."

Bruce Arians is happy with the talent the Arizona Cardinals have at tight end, but durability may be an issue.

The Cardinals could still address the position this summer.

David Johnson Comfortable Getting 30 Touches Per Game

Jul 16, 2017 6:16 PM

David Johnson believes he can increase his workload this season with the Arizona Cardinals.

Bruce Arians said earlier in the offseason that he could envision Johnson getting 30 touches per game.

"I feel like there's room for me to definitely carry more," Johnson told SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio at the National Fantasy Football Convention on Sunday. "I think the biggest thing is me learning and getting better and improving. So I feel like I can definitely get that 30 touches, not all rushing obviously, 30 touches per game.

"I feel like I definitely have the ability to do that just because I'm a young guy still in my first contract, feeling great -- knee's 100 percent, no problems -- and I'm ready to go."

Johnson ran for 1,239 yards and 16 touchdowns to go with 80 receptions for 879 yards in 2016.

Tyrann Mathieu: I'm NFL's Best Defender When Healthy

Jul 14, 2017 8:08 AM

When healthy, Tyrann Mathieu believes he's the best defender in football.

The Arizona Cardinals safety has torn his ACL twice in the last four years.

"I'm feeling great, it will be a great year for us," Mathieu said. "Any time I'm healthy I feel like I'm the best defensive player in the NFL."

Mathieu's latest ACL injury was deemed a "clean" tear, so it's reasonable to believe he can make another run at top defensive honors now that he's feeling "great" again.

Bruce Arians Hopes To Coach In 2018 If Healthy

Jul 14, 2017 7:59 AM

Bruce Arians wants to coach in 2018 as long as he remains healthy.

Arians is entering his fifth season with the Arizona Cardinals. He said he never wavered on coaching this coming season despite three medical issues in five months last year.

"We'll re-evaluate it at the end of next year, and hopefully we'll be ready for another one," Arians, 64, said.

Arians said he'd like to at least finish out his contract, which runs through 2018. His contract also includes a team option for the 2019 season.

Bruce Arians Had Kidney Cancer During 2016 Season

Jul 11, 2017 4:13 PM

Bruce Arians has revealed that he was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma, the most common type of kidney cancer, during the 2016 season.

Arians writes in his new book that he received the diagnosis in December and decided to coach the rest of the season.

The Arizona Cardinals coach had surgery to remove the cancer in February and will be healthy enough to coach the team in 2017.

This is the third cancer diagnosis for Arians, who has previously had prostate cancer in 2007 and had cancerous cells scraped off his nose in 2013.

Le'Veon Bell has one week left to sign a long-term deal before playing the season under the franchise tag with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"I hope he gets the deal he deserves," David Johnson told the MMQB. "I hope it's going to be the type of deal that cornerbacks get and quarterbacks get."

David Johnson Feels Pressure To Get Palmer, Fitzgerald A Ring

Jul 9, 2017 4:29 PM

David Johnson feels an urgency to win a Super Bowl as soon as possible so Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald can get a ring.

Earlier this offseason, Johnson said he didn't think the Arizona Cardinals were feeling extra urgency to win.

"Because Carson, especially Carson and Larry, those two guys have taught me so much in these last two years that helped me so much with the playbook," Johnson said.

"Learning how to run a route effectively, it's not all about speed, it's also about technique and stuff. So I really want to do it for those guys. Especially since they're such — not just great athletes, but great people off the field. So I feel like there's a little pressure on me to do as much as I can to get that ring for those two."
