Cardinals Criticized For Inexplicably Waiting To Shop Josh Rosen

Apr 30, 2019 4:26 PM

The Arizona Cardinals were not proactive in determining the trade market of Josh Rosen in advance of draft weekend.

The Cardinals waited until they had selected Kyler Murray to initiate at least some teams in talks.

Some teams that would have been otherwise interested in Rosen didn't receive a call until after Murray was traded.

"I can't think of anyone who could have played this worse," said one of the executives. "EVERYONE knew they were taking Murray and you're drafting first overall. You have nothing to hide from anyone. They could have been quietly shopping Rosen for weeks at least."

Freddie Kitchens Unfazed By Duke Johnson's Trade Request

Apr 29, 2019 8:36 AM

Duke Johnson didn't report to offseason workouts with the Cleveland Browns last month and has reportedly requested a trade.

This year's NFL Draft came and went without the Browns moving Johnson, who likely will have a reduced role with new acquisitions Kareem Hunt and Odell Beckham in the fold.

"Duke is under contract. I have said this for like a month now, I don't know where all this trade talk started happening," Freddie Kitchens said. "People just assumed that we are going to trade him because we signed another good football player. Me, personally, I like good football players and I like as many of them as we can get.

"Duke Johnson is on this football team, Duke Johnson will have a vital role in this football team and Duke Johnson will help us win football games. Am I surprised that he's still here? No, not one bit. I haven't wavered and never said anything different other than that."

Depth Of Draft Made It Easy For Colts To Trade Out Of First Round

Apr 26, 2019 8:43 AM

The Indianapolis Colts have three second-round picks to use on Friday night after trading out of the first round of this year's NFL Draft.

They traded the 26th pick to the Washington Redskins for the 46th pick this year and a 2020 second-rounder.

"I'm pretty patient, I don't panic – we don't panic," Chris Ballard said. "We stay true to what we're looking at on the board, and we make a decision."

Ballard said the decision to move out of the first round was easy because of how deep this year's class looks.

"Depth? That's why we made the move," he said. "We thought the ability of the three [second-round picks], that's the strength of how we had it lined up. ...

"I do not see the same depth that there was last year at the top of the draft. I think I told a couple of y'all this a few weeks ago where between 11, 12, 15, all the way to 70, I think it's a matter of flavor, who you like and who you want. We got good players last year at the start of the second round. We think we will do it again."

Kyle Shanahan: 49ers Won't OK Robbie Gould's Trade Request

Apr 26, 2019 8:08 AM

Kyle Shanahan says the San Francisco 49ers won't grant Robbie Gould's request to be traded.

Earlier this week, Gould and his agent told the 49ers that the kicker wants to be traded back closer to his Chicago home.

"We love having Robbie here," Shanahan said. "We understand that he doesn't want to live here long-term and he's made that clear to us and we get that. But we do have a franchise tag and he's that good of a kicker that he's worth franchising. Unfortunately, we know we're not going to have him here long-term. I think that's been pretty clear. No hard feelings about that. I can understand his reasons but I'm pretty excited to have a good kicker this year."
