Dolphins Trade Robert Quinn To Cowboys

Mar 29, 2019 8:32 AM

The Miami Dolphins have traded Robert Quinn to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2020 sixth-round pick.

Quinn will receive a new one-year deal worth $8 million from the Cowboys and can earn $1 million more in incentives, according to sources.

The defensive end was set to make $11.8 million in the last year of his contract. Earlier in the month, the Dolphins paid Quinn a $1.12 million roster bonus and reportedly were willing to pay some of Quinn's base salary to facilitate a trade.

However, Miami is not paying any of the money in Quinn's new deal with the Cowboys.

NFL Execs Concerned With Precedent Set By Antonio Brown

Mar 28, 2019 9:27 AM

Several high ranking executives are concerned about the precedent of Antonio Brown forcing his way off the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason with his trade to the Oakland Raiders.

Brown wanted a new contract the Steelers were never going to give him.

“It’s a problem. Other star players see this and might want to do the same,” one source said. “I know the Steelers had a difficult situation and needed to get rid of him. But they had other options.”

Pittsburgh had Brown under contract for three more years at a total of $38.925 million.

“It was a very un-Steeler-like move,” one source said.

“He was crazy enough to pull this off,” one veteran agent said. “Most guys aren’t wired that way. The contracts and rules are in place.”

Le'Veon Bell also went down an unconventional path to accomplish his goals, which included higher guarantees.

“I’ve seen too many injuries not to value that,” Bell said. “I’ve seen the Steelers pretty much cut Troy Polamalu, a future Hall of Famer. [Polamalu retired with two years left on his contract.] AB did what he felt was best for him. My situation was different, but we both wanted to get our fair value. That’s what every player wants.”

Giants Internally Explore Trade For Josh Rosen

Mar 27, 2019 6:55 AM

The New York Giants are internally exploring a trade for Josh Rosen.

The Arizona Cardinals have been rumored to prefer Kyler Murray at No. 1 and will listen to offers for Josh Rosen. Rosen was the No. 10 pick in last year's draft.

The Giants could still also select a quarterback in this year's draft with Murray, Dwayne Haskins, Drew Lock and Daniel Jones all potential first round picks at the position.

The future of Eli Manning as quarterback of the Giants beyond 2019 remains uncertain.

Kliff Kingsbury Insists Josh Rosen Fits His System

Mar 26, 2019 4:23 PM

Kliff Kingsbury insists Josh Rosen will fit his offense with the Arizona Cardinals should they keep him as their quarterback. The Cardinals are also considering Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall pick.

"No question," Kingsbury said. "People have said a lot of things that are misconceptions, if you will. But Josh is a tremendous player, I've always thought, watching him at UCLA. He played his best football in a spread system, some similarities to what we do. He's a tremendous thinker, very cerebral, can throw it with anybody, and we take a lot of pride in building a system around a quarterback.

"For someone to say he doesn't fit our system, it doesn't make sense."

Kingsbury said with the first overall draft pick comes "tons of chatter."

Kingsbury praised Murray on Tuesday, calling him "one of the better dual-threat players to ever play."

"I don't know if I've seen one that can do both things as well as he does," Kingsbury said. "You see the running ability, Mike Vick comes to mind, that type of explosion and escapability. He's a true dropback passer when he wants to be. He's a tough combination."

Dolphins Attempted To Trade For Matthew Stafford Before 2018 Draft

Mar 26, 2019 3:10 PM

The Miami Dolphins attempted to trade for Matthew Stafford before the 2018 season.

Adam Gase wanted to replace Ryan Tannehill at quarterback with an upgrade. Gase reached out to Matt Patricia personally about a potential deal.

Talks never reached a serious point but it is believed the Dolphins would have at least offered their own 2018 first round pick.

Tannehill was traded to the Tennessee Titans last week for a fourth-round pick in the 2020 draft.

49ers Confirm They Were Unwilling To Trade No. 2 For Odell Beckham

Mar 25, 2019 9:06 AM

Jed York confirmed the San Francisco 49ers pursued a trade for Odell Beckham Jr. with the New York Giants.

“We were definitely in it,” York said. “We were aggressive. But I think (the Giants) wanted different things than we had to offer. I think it would have been very hard for us to just give up a first-round pick and not get a ton in return, other than just the player, knowing that the second pick in the draft is a very, very valuable pick.”

The 49ers, however, did not pursue a trade for Antonio Brown.

Brandon Beane: Bills Were Never Close To Acquiring Antonio Brown

Mar 25, 2019 8:36 AM

Despite reports to the contrary, Brandon Beane says the Buffalo Bills were never close to trading for Antonio Brown.

The Pittsburgh Steelers ultimately dealt Brown to the Oakland Raiders.

Beane admitted to talking to the Steelers about what they would want for the receiver, but he never got close in talks with agent Drew Rosenhaus on an agreement for a new contract for Brown.

“We had productive talks with Kevin Colbert, with Pittsburgh, but one of the things I made clear with Kevin early on is we would have to be comfortable with where the compensation is going to have to be with AB’s representatives, and that was never something that we were even close on,” Beane said.

John Mara Was 'Reluctant' For Giants To Trade Odell Beckham

Mar 25, 2019 8:59 AM

New York Giants ownership considers the trade of Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns among the toughest moves they have ever made.

John Mara even insisted that he gave a "reluctant approval" after thinking about it.

The Giants traded Beckham for a first-round pick, third-round pick and safety Jabrill Peppers. The deal came seven months after Beckham received a five-year deal worth up to $98.5 million.

"I will tell you it was a reluctant approval on my part because I happen to like Odell [Beckham Jr.] very much, and I recognize the unique talent that he has," Mara said. "It's not easy to trade that player to another team."

49ers Could Have 'Feeding Frenzy' If Kyler Murray Falls To No. 2

Mar 22, 2019 9:35 AM

The Arizona Cardinals are strongly considering selecting Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall pick. If the Cardinals decide not to select him, there are expected to be a number of teams interested in trading up to the San Francisco 49ers' slot at No. 2.

"Now, if they don’t do it, and he’s still there at No. 2, I see an absolute feeding frenzy from teams looking to trade all the way up for Murray," wrote Jay Glazer. "I just don’t see him dropping past that. But man, if the Cards don’t take him, that No. 2 slot that the 49ers own would probably be the most sought-after slot in a long time."
