Matthew Stafford Hopes To Spend Entire Career With Lions

Dec 28, 2018 10:26 AM

Matthew Stafford has been mentioned as a possible trade candidate this offseason, but he would prefer to remain with the Detroit Lions.

"I think there's something special about a guy getting a chance to play his entire career in one place," Stafford said ahead of Sunday's season finale at Green Bay. "Not many guys get to do that these days. I would love to be one of those guys."

The Lions signed Stafford to a five-year, $135 million contract extension with $92 million guaranteed prior to the 2017 season, with the first year of the extension coming in 2018.

Detroit would incur a $30 million cap hit if they trade him.

Stafford said he hasn't been asked for input about the future of the organization. Stafford would like that to change.

"Obviously I've been with this team for a long time, seen a lot of people come in and out," Stafford said. "Probably have some unique perspective on some things but at the same time, you know, those guys' jobs are solely to do those kind of things and my job is to score touchdowns and get our offense in the end zone.

"So that's what I'll focus on."

DeSean Jackson Hopes To Leave Buccaneers In 2019

Dec 27, 2018 2:20 PM

DeSean Jackson would like to move on from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason.

Jackson is signed for next season with a base salary of $10 million, none of which is guaranteed.

Jackson had a verbal exchange with coach Dirk Koetter over him not practicing with a hand injury in the week following the team's victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 12.

Jackson missed the next three games and returned in Week 16 against the Dallas Cowboys, finishing with one reception for 24 yards.

Chris Godwin has emerged as Tampa Bay's No. 2 receiver.

Amari Cooper: Mark Davis Made Decision To Trade Me

Dec 14, 2018 11:06 AM

Amari Cooper said it was Mark Davis that decided to trade him from the Oakland Raiders to the Dallas Cowboys, and not Jon Gruden or Reggie McKenzie.

“They were getting calls about a first for [2020], and they weren’t going to do it,” Cooper said, via Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “But when Jerry Jones called about a first for [2019], he felt he had no choice.”

In his six games in Dallas, Cooper has more receiving yards (642), first downs (23), first downs on third down (11) and receptions on third down (13) than any other receiver in the NFL has the past six games.
