Dolphins May Be Looking At Matt Moore

Sep 30, 2014 9:46 PM

Panthers quarterback Matt Moore could figure into Miami's quarterback plans this coming season. Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne indicated last week that he could have competition for the job and Moore may come cheap. Carolina has drafted quarterbacks high in each of the last two season -- Cam Newton and Jimmy Clausen -- and they also have veteran Brian St. Pierre. Moore also has ties to Dolphins coach Tony Sparano and general manager Jeff Ireland as both were on staff with the Cowboys when Dallas signed Moore as an undrafted free agent in 2007.

Cardinals Still Have Questions About Kolb

May 16, 2014 10:15 PM

The Cardinals are very much in need of a quarterback, but they still have questions about acquiring Kevin Kolb from the Eagles. The rumor is that Kolb is "likely headed" to the Cardinals "probably for a couple of second-round draft picks" once the lockout is lifted, but that "there are still some concerns about Kolb among Arizona coaches." "They wonder about his decision-making" and if he's "the right fit for coach Ken Whisenhunt's offense," according to Scout.com.

Agent: Gilyard Didn't Ask For Trade

Oct 10, 2014 3:15 PM

The agent for Rams wide receiver Mardy Gilyard denied a rumor from former St. Louis assistant Rick Venturi that the former University of Cincinnati standout had requested a trade. "Mardy Gilyard never requested a trade," agent Andy Simms wrote on his Twitter account. "Untrue." Simms isn't the only one shooting down the rumor from Venturi, who works for 101 ESPN in St. Louis. Tony Softli, a former Rams executive who works for the same outlet as Venturi, reported that Gilyard hasn't asked for a trade.

Kolb Won't Cause Problems If Eagles Don't Trade Him

Jul 2, 2014 6:05 AM

Kevin Kolb wants the Eagles to trade him, but he won't cause problems if a deal isn't worked out. "If the situation (being the Eagles' backup) can't be avoided, I'm not going to sit there and be a turd," Kolb told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "That's not my style. I think that I've voiced my opinion, and there's nothing more I can do. Just like always, whatever situation arises, I'll just have to roll with the punches." Kolb lost his job as the Eagles' starter last September when he was outplayed by Vick. At 26, he said it's "a big deal" for him to have an opportunity to start somewhere.

Broncos Won't Trade Orton For Low Draft Picks

Jul 26, 2014 12:51 PM

The Broncos aren't looking to trade quarterback Kyle Orton and there is still a possibility that he could begin the 2011 season as their starter. Orton's internal value is high and his $8.5 million contract is relatively low. The rebuilding Broncos are in need of draft picks, but they aren't going to take low selections for the quarterback. "If the right call comes in and the offer is strong, it will be considered, according to sources. But the idea that a third- or fourth-round pick might get it done is woefully misguided. A high second-round pick that converts to a first-rounder based on production, now that could be a different story," Jason La Canfora of NFL.com writes.

Owner Still Wants Palmer To Remain With Bengals

Sep 30, 2014 11:28 PM

The Bengals drafted a quarterback with the 35th overall pick in last month's NFL Draft, but owner Mike Brown still wants Carson Palmer to remain with the team. Palmer has requested that Cincinnati trade him and sources close to the veteran claim he's prepared to retire from the NFL if he isn't dealt. "We don't plan to trade Carson," Brown said. "He's important to us. He's a very fine player, and we do want him to come back. If he chooses not to, he'd retire. And we would go with Andy Dalton, the younger player we drafted, who's a good prospect. "Ideally, we'd have both of them. That'd be the best way to go forward. If we don't have Carson, we'll go with Andy."

Browns 'Won't Pursue' Kolb

Oct 1, 2014 1:29 PM

Despite a rumor to the contrary, the Browns are unlikely to pursue trading for Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb. Michael Lombardi of The NFL Network kick-started the Kolb-to-Cleveland talk. "I'm going to go Cleveland [if I'm the Eagles]," Lombardi said. "I'm not buying the Colt McCoy love affair going on in Cleveland. I don't know how you can have the love affair. I think with the extra pick they got from Atlanta, that first-rounder, it's gonna be hard to beat them in a poker game." Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer cited a source on Saturday that says the "Browns won't pursue" Kolb.

Reid: No Deal In Place To Trade Kolb

Jul 10, 2014 5:43 PM

The Eagles don't have a trade in place to move quarterback Kevin Kolb, according to head coach Andy Reid. Reid told Comcast SportsNet's Daily News Live that as he understood pre-lockout offseason rules, "you weren't supposed to finalize any deals and even get into that type of talk about deals." That included the one-day window (April 29) when the league was ordered open for business by a Minnesota judge. Reid, as he has said many times since the season ended, confirmed that several teams have kicked the tires on Kolb. "You don't know how serious they are, because in the National Football League, nothing happens until it has to happen," Reid said. "You have an idea of who's interested in quarterbacks ... but you couldn't do any deals then. You never got to that point where it's real serious; it was too far in advance. "And you can't talk at all now. So, if he ends up going somewhere, more power to him, he deserves that opportunity. But I also like him here."

McNabb A Possibility For Ravens?

Feb 12, 2014 5:09 AM

If Marc Bulger leaves the Ravens as a free agent, the team will then be in the market for a backup to starting quarterback Joe Flacco. Washington's Donovan McNabb might be able to fill the void. The Baltimore Sun writes that the possibility shouldn't be ruled out, although Flacco and McNabb would have to check their egos at the door. The market for McNabb appears to be drying up and his time in Washington is considered over. Ravens coach John Harbaugh was on Andy Reid's staff in Philadelphia for 10 years, but it is unknown how close he was with McNabb.

Is New England An Option For Steve Smith?

Jun 28, 2014 7:29 PM

Steve Smith is unhappy in Carolina and wants to be in a competitive situation, but is New England a fit? Mike Reiss of ESPN.com writes that he thinks "the Patriots are stocked at receiver, but if there is an injury and they are looking for a veteran in a trade scenario, Smith could represent a Randy Moss-type 2007 option if he's willing to reduce his salary to land in that competitive situation."
