Market For Kolb Is Shrinking

Nov 12, 2014 6:02 PM

Of the teams that needed a quarterback heading into this week's NFL Draft, about half of them grabbed one in the first two days of the selection process. That lowers the number of suitors for Philadelphia's Kevin Kolb, who remains with the team due to the league's lockout and restriction on trades. The Philadelphia Inquirer writes that Seattle, Arizona, Miami, Washington, Buffalo, and Cleveland are the teams still most in need of a quarterback.

Payton Expects Bush To Be With Saints

Sep 11, 2014 6:36 PM

Saints coach Sean Payton expects Reggie Bush to be with the team when football is played. Payton said as much during an on-air interview with ESPN2 during Friday night's coverage of the second round of the NFL Draft. "I do," Payton said when asked if he felt Bush would be on the team's roster when the 2011 season begins. "I had a good visit with him this morning. A lot has been talked about, and I get back to looking at his role and it's uniquely different than some of our other players," Payton. "I had a chance to talk with him this morning, much like I met with Deuce McAllister five years ago when we drafted Bush."

Vikings Remain Interested In McNabb Despite Drafting Ponder

Aug 11, 2014 5:49 PM

The Vikings drafted Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder with the 12th overall pick on Thursday night, but the team is still interested in acquiring Donovan McNabb from the Redskins. League sources said Friday that the addition of Ponder hasn't changed Minnesota's desire for a veteran quarterback. Whether through trade or his release, McNabb is expected to eventually become a Viking.

Bengals Wanted 32nd Pick From Packers

Jun 10, 2014 3:49 PM

The Bengals, in need of a quarterback, tried to swing a deal with the Packers for the last pick in the first round of Thursday night's NFL Draft. Cincinnati would have selected TCU's Andy Dalton, according to league sources. The Bengals and Packers could not agree on the compensation for the 32nd pick, however, so the Packers selected Mississippi State tackle Derek Sherrod.

Jaguars Could Trade Back Into Second Round

Oct 21, 2014 10:21 PM

Jaguars general manager Gene Smith says the team could look to trade back into the second round of Friday night's portion of the 2011 NFL Draft. "Thats always a possibility," Smith said. "Certainly we make calls overnight just to see what our options are going into the second day. Certainly in our position we'd like to be in another round, but you make moves and you give up a pick and it may take you out of one pick."

Bears Take Blame For Failed Trade With Ravens

Oct 31, 2014 6:31 AM

The Bears failed to complete a trade with the Ravens late in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft on Thursday night, leading Baltimore to pass on their selection. The Chiefs jumped ahead of the Ravens and selected wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin at No. 26. Baltimore then jumped back in the draft and took Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith at No. 27. Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said he called the NFL with two and a half minutes left on the clock to consummate the trade and never got confirmation from the league. "There was an agreement made between the [Bears] team and I," Newsome said. "I got on the phone with the NFL but the [Bears] never got confirmation from the league. At that point I was asked by the league to make the pick." The Bears would have traded their fourth-round pick, 127th overall, to the Ravens in the deal that would have seen the teams swap first-rounders. "We had a disconnect and there might be something said about it because of not communicating with the league and proper protocol; that was my fault," Chicago general manager Jerry Angelo said. "I called Baltimore and apologized to Baltimore and told them it was our fault. They did everything according to the rules, and we thought we were following everything, and we just ran out of time. It was a glitch on our part and that glitch obviously was under my reign."
