Eli Isn't Surprised Giants Didn't Land Big WR

Oct 31, 2014 6:18 AM

Giants quarterback Eli Manning wasn't surprised that the team didn't end up swinging a major trade for a wide receiver like Braylon Edwards or Anquan Boldin this past weekend. "I didn't know what was going to happen. No, I'm not surprised," Manning said Tuesday. "You never know what to expect on draft day. You hear a lot of rumors and you never know what's true and what's false." New York did, however, add wide receivers Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden and tight end Travis Beckum via the draft. "Looking at the receivers we have right now, I'm very confident with the guys and everybody we have that we can go out there and play at a high level," Manning said, adding: "You've got to trust your guys to get open and I trust our players. You know what their strengths are, you know what they do well. "The more time we get to work with the guys we have here, the better they'll get, the better our timing will get. We've got some young guys who have played well, but the more experience they get, they'll all get better and we'll see how good we can be."

Sheldon Brown Hopes Hobbs Means Eagles Will Deal Him

Oct 28, 2014 5:17 PM

Disgruntled cornerback Sheldon Brown hopes that the acquisition of veteran cornerback Ellis Hobbs means that the Eagles will grant his trade request. However, coach Andy Reid claims that the trade for Ellis, with New England for two fifth-round picks, had nothing to do with Brown's demands. "This gives us some depth at the cornerback position," Reid said. "[Hobbs] has been a starting cornerback for the Patriots for the last 3 years. We got a good quality player. You can't have enough corners in this league. So we wanted to make sure we addressed that and brought in a veteran player. "This doesn't have anything to do with Sheldon's situation or anything else. So we don't even need to go there with that. This is a quality player that we had an opportunity to get and we chose to do so." Brown sees things differently, in that now Philadelphia has a replacement for him. "Over the next few months, if they got an offer, they would be in a position [now] to trade me," he said. "It's a good thing from that perspective. It gives me more hope."

Bears Offered Second-Rounder For Boldin

Jun 23, 2014 12:55 AM

Bears general manager Jerry Angelo offered the Cardinals a second round pick on Saturday in exchange for receiver Anquan Boldin. It was believed that Arizona softened their stance, but they initially were looking for a first- and third-round pick for the receiver. "I would assume [trade talks are dead]," Angelo said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "If it was going to happen, it would happen [Saturday]. How motivated they were or weren't ? they came out [asking for] a one and a three and there were things that I read, so I really don't know what their thinking was."

Redskins: 2010 First-Round Pick Not On Block

May 26, 2014 6:43 PM

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder says that the team's first round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft is not on the market. "We're not going to be trading next year's 1," Snyder told radio station ESPN980 in an interview Friday. "We've already said that several times." Washington has the 13th choice in this year's draft, and have reportedly been looking to trade up. "We're really not as a franchise comfortable trading first-round draft picks," Snyder said. "I don't think it's a wise move to keep trading that pick. It's always a little bit risky."
