Broncos Say They'll Trade Cutler
The Denver Broncos said Tuesday they will grant Jay Cutler his request and try to trade him.
Broncos owner Pat Bowlen released a statement saying both he and McDaniels had been unable to get Cutler to call them back over the last 10 days. Bowlen said he spoke with Cutler's agent, Bus Cook, on Tuesday and came away convinced "that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos."
Therefore, Bowlen said, "We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded."
Cook didn't immediately return messages left by The Associated Press, and McDaniels, through a team spokesman, declined to comment.
Falcons Will Release Vick If They Can't Trade Him
Falcons owner Arthur Blank has been adamant that Michael Vick will not play another game for the franchise, which could become a problem if they can't find a trade suitor.
Atlanta is expected to release Vick outright if they can't trade him, a move that would be a $7.11 million cap hit for the 2009 season.
Bears Trying To Get In On Cutler
Yahoo! Sports reported Wednesday that the Bears have reached out to the Broncos about Jay Cutler, who has requested a trade. The extent of that discussion is unknown.
Jerry Angelo said after last season that he was "fixated" on the position
"I do not comment on players who are under contract with other teams," Angelo said Wednesday.
The New York Jets, Tampa Bay (where Cutler was headed in the rumored three-team deal), Minnesota and Detroit also are reported to have had interest in Cutler.
Pioli: No Trade Request From Gonzalez
Kansas City general manager Scott Pioli said Pro Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez did not request a trade during recent conversations.
?He has not indicated to me that he wants to be traded,? Pioli said. ?I don?t want to get into any other specifics of the conversations because those are conversations that will stay between players and (coach Todd Haley) and players and myself. Peters reportedly wants to be the highest-paid left tackle in the NFL, a title that belongs to Carolina's Jordan Gross, who signed a six-year, $60 million deal last month.
Report: Gonzalez Open To Trade Talk
Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez reportedly wants to be traded if the right deal can be made, which contradicts comments made by owner Clark Hunt on Tuesday.
The source said that Gonzalez was surprised to hear that Hunt had said the Chiefs were definitely not going to trade him.
"If the right deal can be made, Tony very much wants the Chiefs to trade him," the person said. "Tony is not demanding a trade. Tony cherishes the time he's spent with the Chiefs and he loves the way he's always been treated by the fans there. But he knows of some other teams that would be interested in him and if the right deal can be made, he wants it to be made."
Jets To Broncos: We Want Cutler
The Jets have reportedly told the Broncos that they want quarterback Jay Cutler.
General manager Mike Tannenbaum contacted the Broncos at the opening of the NFL meetings this weekend, according to the New York Daily News.
The Jets haven't made an offer, while the Broncos have yet to concede Cutler. They are hoping the feud between the quarterback and Denver coach Josh McDaniels will blow over.
Broncos Open To Trading TE Scheffler?
The Broncos are open to trading tight end Tony Scheffler, according to Pro Football Weekly.
Denver coach Josh McDaniels reportedly doesn't view Scheffler, a pass-catching tight end, as a good fit for his scheme on offense, which favors blocking tight ends.
