UFL Virginia Hires Marty Schotteneimer
Marty Schottenheimer, sixth on the NFL's all-time coaching victories list, is heading to the UFL to be the coach/GM of the Virginia Destroyers, the league announced Wednesday. Schottenheimer, 67, has not coached since he was unceremoniously fired by the Chargers after a 14-2 season in 2006, primarily because of a dysfunctional relationship with GM A.J. Smith, according to an ESPN.com report.
Green Bay Re-Sign Charlie Peprah
The Packers have re-signed safety Charlie Peprah. Peprah played in 14 games for Green Bay in 2010, starting a career-high 11 contests at strong safety. He recorded career highs in tackles (64), interceptions (two) and passes defensed (seven). He led the team with 10 tackles in the Super Bowl.
Lions Sign Nathan Vasher To One-Year Deal
The Lions have signed cornerback Nathan Vasher to a one-year contract. The agreement was reached before league business ceased on Thursday. Vasher, who signed as a free agent last September, made two big plays at the end of Detroit's Week 16 win over Miami.
Browns Re-Sign Wallace, Jackson
The Browns have re-signed potential free agents quarterback Seneca Wallace and linebacker D'Qwell Jackson. Wallace signed a three-year deal, The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported, citing a league source. Jackson signed a one-year deal reportedly worth up to $4.5 million.
Giants Re-Sign Hixon, Reynaud
The Giants signed Domenik Hixon to a contract extension on Thursday. Hixon missed all of last season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered during the summer, causing New York's return game to struggle. The team also announced that it signed his replacement last year, Darius Reynaud, to a contract extension as well.
Ngata Signs Tender With Ravens
Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata signed his franchise tender Wednesday, according to a league source. Ngata will make $12.476 million next season on the one-year contract. Baltimore drafted Ngata with the 12th overall pick back in 2006.
Saints Sign Shaun Rogers
The Saints have signed defensive tackle Shaun Rogers to a one-year deal. The contract is worth $4 million, according to a source. Rogers, a former three-time Pro Bowl player, was cut on Feb. 9 after playing sparingly during the 2010 season due to ankle, hip and elbow injuries.
Greenway Signs Tender With Vikings
Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway signed his franchise tender Tuesday. Greenway, 28, has led the team in tackles for three straight seasons. He was chosen the team's 2010 defensive MVP and had 149 tackles. He will be entering his sixth season, including a rookie season that he sat out with a knee injury. Greenway stands to make nearly $10 million next season after signing the tender.
Patriots Sign DT Marcus Stroud
The Patriots have signed defensive tackle Marcus Stroud to a two-year deal, according to a league source. Stroud was recently released by Buffalo. He was scheduled to make $10 million in base salary over the final two years of his contract with the Bills, including $4.5 million next season.
