Vikings Sign Star CFL Receiver
The Vikings have signed CFL wide receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux to a three-year deal. The deal is reportedly worth $1.8 million and includes a $75,000 signing bonus. Arceneaux was offered a six-figure contract to return to the B.C. Lions. He worked out for eight teams over the last two weeks and the decision came down to the Dolphins, Vikings, Seahawks and Bears.
Rams Hire McDaniels As O-Coordinator
The Rams hired former Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels as their offensive coordinator on Tuesday. The 34-year-old McDaniels replaces Pat Shurmur, who was hired by the Browns as head coach earlier this month.
Raiders Name Hue Jackson Head Coach
The Raiders promoted offensive coordinator Hue Jackson to head coach on Monday after he helped the team more than double its scoring output in his first year with the franchise. Jackson will be formally introduced at a news conference Tuesday, two weeks after the team announced they were not picking up an option to keep coach Tom Cable.
Seahawks, Obomanu Agree To Extension
The Seahawks have agreed to a three-year, $12 million extension with wide receiver Ben Obomanu. Obomanu had a breakout season for Seattle in 2010. The Seahawks locked up wide receiver Mike Williams with a three-year extension last Monday.
Browns Hire Pat Shurmur
The Browns hired Rams' offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur on Thursday, ending a search for their fifth coach since 1999 that began when Eric Mangini was fired on Jan. 3. Shurmur was the first candidate interviewed by Browns president Mike Holmgren.
Michigan Picks San Diego State's Hoke
Michigan picked San Diego State's Brady Hoke as its new football coach on Tuesday, hours after LSU said Les Miles would be staying with LSU. Hoke is a former Wolverines assistant and AD Dave Brandon praised him highly in announcing the decision.
Packers Sign LB Bishop To Extension
The Packers have signed linebacker Desmond Bishop to a four-year, $19 million contract extension, according to a league source. Bishop, a former sixth round pick in 2007, has become a standout linebacker for Green Bay this season. He had 103 tackles, three sacks, an interception and two forced fumbles in the regular season.
Mike Williams Signs Three-Year Deal With Seahawks
Mike Williams has signed a three-year contract extension to remain with the NFC West Champion Seahawks. "I'm happy to be a part of the beginning. I can't really put into words," Williams said. "I'm very blessed." Williams, who spent the previous two years out of the NFL, finished the regular season with a career-best 65 catches for 751 yards and two touchdowns.
Vikings Sign Juaquin Iglesias
Former Bears third-round draft choice Juaquin Iglesias has been signed to the Vikings 53-man roster. Iglesias, the 99th overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft, spent the entire 2010 season on Chicago's practice squad, after being cut by the team on Sept. 4. The receiver was inactive for all but one game during his rookie campaign.
Bills Re-Sign Merriman To Two-Year Deal
The Bills have re-signed linebacker Shawne Merriman to a two-year deal. Buffalo general manager Buddy Nix confirmed the deal on Saturday. Merriman has been riddled by injuries and did not play a down for the Bills after he was claimed off waivers at midseason. "We know the situation, we researched it, we did all our homework with Shawne," Nix said. "Everything you do is a little bit of a gamble. There's reward and upside to it and I think both sides are happy with the way the contract is structured."
