Yahoo.com reports that the Jets have hired Scott Cohen for their newly created position of assistant GM, according to a person with the team. Cohen will work with GM Mike Tannenbaum on day-to-day operations, the person said on condition of anonymity Friday night because the team hadn?t yet announced the hiring. Cohen, 39, spent the last seven seasons as Philadelphia?s director of pro personnel.

The Eagles on Friday extended the contract of GM Tom Heckert through the 2011 season, as reported by Yahoo.com. Heckert, who is entering his eighth season with the team, works with Coach Andy Reid in all player personnel matters. He originally joined the Eagles as the club?s director player personnel in 2001, was promoted to VP of player personnel in 2003, and to GM in 2006. The Eagles also named Howie Roseman VP of player personnel.

The Redskins signed free agent safety Justin Hamilton on Friday, as reported by Yahoo.com. Hamilton made 15 tackles for the Browns during the 2006 season. He was cut from the Browns on September 1, 2007, and did not play in the NFL last season.

Peter Warrick, a former first-round pick of the NFL?s Bengals, signed with the CFL?s Montreal Alouettes on Tuesday, as reported by the Canadian Press. Warrick was selected fourth overall by Cincinnati in the 2000 NFL draft. He played five seasons with the Bengals before joining the Seahawks in 2005 and helped the team reach the Super Bowl before losing to the Steelers. Warrick was released by Seattle on Sept. 2, 2006.

Receiver Bethel Johnson, who won two Super Bowl rings while with the NFL?s Patriots, signed with the Argonauts on Monday, as reported by the Canadian Press.
