Tom Brady Suspended Four Games By NFL

May 13, 2015 12:03 AM

Tom Brady has been suspended four games by the NFL.

The New England Patriots will lose a first rounder in 2016, a fourth rounder in 2017 and also will be fined $1 million.

The Wells Report found Brady "was at least generally aware" of Patriots' personnel deflating footballs before the AFC Championship Game.

The report identified two Patriots employees -- officials' locker room attendant Jim McNally and equipment assistant John Jastremski -- as the ones who executed the plan.

The Patriots' first four games are against the Steelers, Bills, Jaguars and Cowboys. Brady's first game back, if the suspension isn't reduced, will be against the Colts. The Colts blew the whistle that Brady was using deflated footballs.

Buccaneers Had Marcus Mariota Rated No. 2

May 7, 2015 9:28 PM

Peter King reported that Leonard Williams, Dante Fowler, Marcus Mariota and Todd Gurley were ranked two through five on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' big board behind Jameis Winston.

When asked to comment about that list as depicted in King’s MMQB column in an exclusive interview with PewterReport.com, Bucs general manager Jason Licht wasn’t sure how King obtained that list.

“I don’t know how [that got out],” Licht said.

Licht said that it wasn't the Buccaneers' final draft board and Mariota ended up ranked second.

“We ended up liking Marcus,” Licht said. “I think he has a good chance of being a good quarterback. His leadership style is definitely different. It’s unique. I can’t pinpoint any quarterback that is like him. I think there is a fire within him, a competitor within him. It’s just different. We just really liked Jameis.

“This is a monumental decision and Lovie [Smith] had to like [Winston], which he did. The owners had to be on board with the number one overall pick, which they were. The staff has to like him – Dirk Koetter and Mike Bajakian had to like him, which they did. We all did. We had to take a shot. We all liked Jameis.”

Browns Would Have Selected Marcus Mariota At No. 12

May 5, 2015 1:13 PM

The quarterback position remains an area of need for the Cleveland Browns long-term.

The Browns were careful, however, not to "overprioritize the quarterback position," according to Mike Pettine.

Marcus Mariota would have been their selection at No. 12 if he slid to them, but they didn't believe trading up for him was worth the cost.

The Browns signed Josh McCown in the offseason and are still holding out some level of hope for Johnny Manziel.

"We go 11 against 11," said Pettine. "We’re not just trotting quarterbacks out there at the 50-yard line and they’re thumb wrestling. To me, there are a lot of different ways to win football games and you just don’t force a situation. Do we look at it and say, 'OK, if we perceive our quarterback room is not the best in the division, what does that mean? Do we call the league and cancel games?'"

Cowboys Comfortable Passing On Running Back In Draft

May 3, 2015 9:04 PM

The Dallas Cowboys didn't draft one of the 22 running backs selected in the 2015 NFL Draft despite an apparent need at the position.

The Cowboys lost DeMarco Murray to the Philadelphia Eagles and currently have Darren McFadden, Lance Dunbar, Joseph Randle and Ryan Williams on the depth chart.

"We would have liked to have drafted a running back, but at the same token, we didn't think at any given time that we should pass at the player that was there, even with the running backs available," Jerry Jones said.
