Rams Open To Trading 2nd Overall Pick

Oct 30, 2014 11:58 AM

The St. Louis Rams own the second overall pick and are open to trading down.

“(We have) not really had any discussion with anybody, but that doesn’t mean to say we won’t," Fisher said.

The Rams traded the second overall pick in 2012 to the Washington Redskins in a blockbuster deal that won't likely be matched due to how valuable Robert Griffin III was in that draft.

"But I think it’s highly unlikely that even if we did trade out that would we get the value that we did the first time around," Fisher said.

Bills Interested In Trading Up For First Overall Pick

Oct 6, 2014 11:16 AM

The Buffalo Bills are interested in trading up for the first overall pick with the Houston Texans.

"It is unclear who the Bills would want in a trade-up scenario," wrote Pompei. "Some believe they would move up for a quarterback. They also could make good use of an offensive tackle such as Greg Robinson. And it would be something to see them pair Mario Williams with either Jadeveon Clowney or Khalil Mack."

The Texans haven't appeared sold on Blake Bortles or any other prospective quarterbacks at No. 1.

The Bills own the ninth overall pick.

McShay Gives Manziel Last First Round Pick Grade

Jul 8, 2014 9:24 AM

Todd McShay has given Johnny Manziel a last first round pick draft grade.

"I have Manziel ranked as the No. 3 quarterback in this class, behind UCF’s Blake Bortles and Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater, and No. 21 prospect overall," writes McShay. "The 90 grade I’ve given him qualifies as a late-first-round grade and is a few notches below Bortles (93) and Bridgewater (92) and several notches below the top three overall talents in this draft: Jadeveon Clowney (97), Greg Robinson (97) and Khalil Mack (96)."

O'Brien: Tough For Rookie Quarterbacks To Play Immediately

Oct 13, 2014 8:04 AM

The Texans have three veteran quarterbacks in Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum and T.J. Yates, but they are still widely expected to select one in the draft first overall.

Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater are the highest-rated quarterbacks.

“We’re going to bring some of these guys to Houston to spend a day with them,” O’Brien said about the quarterbacks and other prospects to be the top pick. “There are other quarterbacks in the draft.

“Being a quarterback coach, it’s important to note there are a lot of quarterbacks who are winners and have played well. My opinion is that I see strengths and weaknesses with every one of these guys. I don’t see one, two or three guys who are light years ahead of the rest.”

The Texans are unlikely to start a rookie at quarterback in Week 1.

“It’s very difficult to play a quarterback right away,” O’Brien said. “Expecting a rookie to go in and play right away against, say, a Rex Ryan (New York Jets) defense, is very, very difficult. At the same time, you better be ready to do it because you never know what’s going to happen.

“What we’re trying to do is to set up a very competitive roster at every position. Through the spring and into camp – at every position – we want a very competitive roster. Let these guys win their positions on the field. If a guy’s got to play as a rookie, then that’s what we’ll do.”

Scout: Tom Savage Has Strongest Arm In Draft

Oct 31, 2014 10:41 AM

Tom Savage won't be a first round pick, but the quarterback out of Pitt has been impressive in workouts.

"He's got a really strong arm, but erratic," a scout told NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport. "Maybe late-round type. But interesting."

Savage was a fifth-year senior in 2013 after previous stops at Rutgers and Arizona.

Savage threw for 2,958 yards, 21 TDs and nine interceptions, completing 61.9 percent of his passes, in 2013.
