Buccaneers Deny Tanking For Top Draft Pick

Dec 30, 2014 10:37 AM

With a fourth-quarter collapse on Sunday, the Buccaneers earned the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NFL draft, according to an ESPN.com report.

The Bucs lost to the Saints, 23-20, despite carrying a 13-point lead into the fourth quarter. The collapse happened with the Bucs (2-14) playing a lot of backups, and it led to questions about whether the team "tanked" to get the No. 1 pick. Coach Lovie Smith strongly denied that.

Drew Brees Critical Of Report About Saints' Drafting QB

Dec 3, 2014 5:41 PM

Drew Brees criticized a report that indicated the New Orleans Saints are interested in drafting a quarterback with a high pick in the hopes of finding his eventual replacement.

“Something like that — I know it has absolutely no validity to it,” Brees said, via the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “A lot of time you can look at who’s writing that stuff and you can say ‘All right this guy is trying to make a splash or trying to make a name for himself’ whatever it might be.

“In a lot of cases I’m not sure where they get their information, if they just completely make it up or if there are sources that are their cousins.”

Brees is turning 36 in January. His play has declined this year. He’s due to make $38.5 million over the last two years of his contract, and the Saints have looming salary cap problems.
