Matt Barkley Throws 55-Of-60 On Pro Day

Aug 8, 2014 11:40 AM

Former USC quarterback Matt Barkley threw in front of scouts Wednesday for the first time since injuring his shoulder in November.

"A lot of the proof is in the tape -- that's where they look first," Barkley said. "But today was proof that I can still throw and make those passes down the field."

There was interest in Barkley's progress from the injury since he did not work out at the Senior Bowl in January or throw at the combine in February. Barkley appeared crisp, completing 55-of-60 attempts during the rehearsed passing display.

Geno Smith's 'Slow Eyes' Drawing Concern

Oct 31, 2014 2:16 PM

Geno Smith is widely expected to be the top quarterback selected in the 2013 NFL Draft.

But NFL Films' Greg Cosell also has concerns about Smith's "slow eyes."

"When you watch a lot of film, you know what the route combinations are, you know where the ball is supposed to go based on the defense, and you know when a throw is there," he explained. "And too many times I thought that throws that were there clearly defined, he took an extra beat.

"And in the NFL, that will kill you. You can still complete balls in college like that, but that won't happen in the NFL. And I can't answer whether that's coachable or not."

Te'o Denies Being Asked By Teams About Sexual Orientation

Jul 26, 2014 3:31 AM

Manti Te'o has denied being asked by the NFL teams about his sexual orientation.

“No, I don’t think that’s a question they asked,” Te’o said on Friday.

Katie Couric asked Te’o in a January interview if he was gay.

Te’o laughed and answered “No, far from it."

Te'o ran a 4.82 at the combine in the 40-yard dash but was impressive in individual workout drills.

“It’s difficult to balance things and to stay as focused on what you got to do," Te'o said. "But for me, I’m glad that the combine is done. I’ve finished that and now I’m focused more on specific things like my 40 and I don’t have to worry so much about other things.

“It’s difficult. I’m not going to say it’s easy because it’s hard, but it’s definitely something you can work through.”
