Texans Could Draft Quarterback

Nov 22, 2014 10:50 AM

The Houston Texans have a fairly settled situation at quarterback with T.J. Yates and Case Keenum backing up Matt Schaub.

But the Texans could still use a pick on a quarterback in the draft.

“I think in this league, you’re always looking for that young quarterback that you think is going to be a 10-, 12-year player in this league and be very successful,” Kubiak said.

Jets One Of Nine Teams To Interview Matt Barkley

Oct 31, 2014 10:30 AM

The New York Jets are amongst nine teams to interview Matt Barkley.

Barkley was a four-year starter at USC, replacing Mark Sanchez in 2009.

Matt Leinart was a complete bust out of USC, while Sanchez has slipped over the past two seasons after initial success with the Jets.

Barkley would be a nice fit in the Jets' new West Coast offense.

Female Kicker To Participate In Regional Combine

Dec 9, 2014 8:56 PM

Lauren Silberman will participate in the regional combine as a kicker, becoming the first female participant.

Silberman was a club soccer player at Wisconsin and subsequently wrote a Master's thesis at MIT on how athletes use video games to improve their own performance.

"I was not aware that I was the first female registrant," Silberman told NFL.com on Tuesday. "I was actually hoping that the 2012 historical milestone rule, to allow women to play, would prompt more women to attend tryouts this year. But for me, what's important is to finally have a chance to fulfill my dreams by trying out to play in the world's most competitive football league."

Oct 31, 2014 6:37 AM

Johnny Manziel's tenure at Texas A&M could last just two seasons, which makes the signings of Kenny Hill and Kohl Stewart vital for the school.

Manziel won the Heisman Trophy as a redshirt freshman and would be eligible to declare for the 2014 NFL Draft.

“With the uncertainty of Johnny's situation because of the way the NFL is going — his stock is rising,” offensive coordinator Clarence McKinney said this week.

Mingo Willing To Switch From DE To OLB

Oct 31, 2014 3:00 PM

Barkevious Mingo said he would embrace a switch from defensive end at LSU to outside linebacker at LSU.

"(I'm) mainly focusing on getting bigger, faster and stronger down at Athletes' Performance (in Gulf Breeze, Fla.)," Mingo told Around the League on Wednesday. "(I'm) really just working on improving ... me."

Mingo didn't begin playing football until his junior year in high school.

Mingo has gained 15 pounds since his final college start.

"If I had my choice, I'd choose defensive end, I played that through college," Mingo said. "But I don't see outside linebacker as being a challenge. It's the same position pretty much."
