Oct 10, 2014 9:55 PM

Like a true Texas hero, Ray Rice donned a white cowboy hat after leading Rutgers to one more milestone victory. Rice ran for 170 yards and a touchdown, Tim Brown caught two TD passes and the 16th-ranked Scarlet Knights won a bowl game for the first time Thursday night, beating Kansas State 37-10 in the Texas Bowl. "We've tasted it, tasted the water and it's a great feeling," said Rice, selected the game's Most Valuable Player.

Cal Dominates Texas A & M In Holiday Bowl

Oct 10, 2014 10:42 PM

What a difference it made when California actually wanted to be in the Holiday Bowl. Two years after a BCS snub led to an uninspired trip to San Diego, the No. 21 Golden Bears dominated the No. 21 Texas A&M Aggies 45-10 behind Marshawn Lynch, who ran for 111 yards and two touchdowns. Nate Longshore threw for a touchdown and ran for another, and Lynch's backup, Justin Forsett, ran for 124 yards and one score.

After breaking the NCAA single-season touchdown record, Colt Brennan isn't sure he's ready to take a shot at the NFL just yet. Utah Wins 6th Straight Bowl Game

May 14, 2014 7:19 PM

Led by quarterback Brett Ratliff and kicker Louis Sakoda, the Utes captured their sixth consecutive bowl game with a 25-13 victory over Tulsa at the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas. Ratliff completed 23-of-34 passes for 240 yards and Louis Sakoda booted four field goals to earn Most Valuable Player honors. Utah also brought out a trick play, using the hook-and-ladder to score a touchdown for a 16-7 lead in the third quarter. Ratliff passed to Brian Hernandez, who turned a four-yard loss into a 14-yard touchdown by flipping a lateral to Brent Casteel. "We practice that a lot, but we had never run it in a game this season," Utes coach Kyle Whittingham said. "We saved it for the bowl game. And if we go to another bowl next year, you might see it again."

Saban Denies New Alabama Rumors

Oct 11, 2014 10:24 PM

Nick Saban says he doesn't browse the Internet, never sends e-mail or surfs from site to site. He may have to start soon, if only to follow the persistent rumors about him and his future. A story posted on NFL.com earlier this week said Alabama "keeps on making runs at Saban" in an effort to convince the Dolphins coach to return to college and take over in Tuscaloosa for the fired Mike Shula. The same story even said an unnamed NFL head coach said Saban is getting closer to joining the Crimson Tide.

Paterno Turns 80, Plans To Continue Coaching

Jul 18, 2014 11:13 PM

Two decades ago, Joe Paterno figured he'd coach for another few years. The Penn State great turns 80 on Thursday, and the answer is still the same. Even a broken left leg hasn't changed his tune. "I had planned before I got injured to coach at least a couple more years," Paterno said earlier this month. "I don't think the injury has set me back that far. It remains to be seen, but right now I am planning on doing exactly what I had planned to do before I got injured."

Huskies' Willingham Not Affected By Mora's Comments

Oct 15, 2014 9:51 PM

By the time U. of Washington coach Tyrone Willingham heard any of the comments Atlanta Falcons coach Jim Mora made, much of the furor had died down. "I didn't find out much about this until it was a dead issue," Willingham said Monday. "I was busy doing what we do, which is recruit." Mora was a guest last Thursday on Seattle radio station KJR-AM. While saying he respects Willingham, Mora added, "If that job's open, you'll find me at the head of the line with my resume in hand ready to take that job."
