Patrick Mahomes Receives 'Best-Case Scenario' Diagnosis On Knee

Oct 18, 2019 3:25 PM

Patrick Mahomes received a "best-case scenario" diagnosis after dislocating his right kneecap.

The MRI Mahomes underwent showed no damage beyond the dislocation.

The Kansas City Chiefs are working through second opinions.

Mahomes suffered the injury during a quarterback sneak on fourth down. As medical staff attended to him on the field, it appeared Mahomes' knee was straightened and popped back into place.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reports Mahomes could be back by Week 11, which is in one month.

Patrick Mahomes Suffers Right Knee Injury

Oct 17, 2019 9:31 PM

Patrick Mahomes suffered what appeared to be a serious right knee injury during the first half of the Kansas City Chiefs' Week 7 game at the Denver Broncos. Mahomes was able to walk off the field on his own power.

Dr. Mark Adickes believed it was a patella (knee cap) dislocation. The treatment could be for Mahomes to sit out for a weeks, but he could also have season-ending surgery with an MRI determining the course of action.

The early reports indicate Mahomes does not have a fracture.

Mahomes won the NFL MVP in 2018.

"I don't know yet. I don't know yet," Shurmur said when asked about Barkley's status for Week 5.

Barkley is hoping to play in Week 6 against the New England Patriots on Thursday night. The original timetable for Barkley's return was four to eight weeks.

Cam Newton Hid Extent Of Foot Injury

Sep 28, 2019 10:44 AM

Cam Newton said he was hiding how much his left foot sprain was bothering him before the season. Newton won't return to the field until he is 100 percent healed.

The Panthers have called the injury a midfoot sprain, which technically is a Lisfranc sprain.

"I've decided I will take time away from the game," Newton, 30, said in his first public comments since reinjuring the foot. "This is me being the bigger person and being real with myself and saying, 'Look, what's the ultimate goal you're trying to accomplish? Win the Super Bowl. OK, if you want to win the Super Bowl, this is the step you've got to take.'

"It could very well be a week. Or two weeks. It could be three weeks, it could be four weeks, it could be six weeks. But I have to understand and know if it takes that time, I trust in this team that they will -- we will -- still be in a great situation by the time I get back."

Newton admitted he probably shouldn't have even played in Week 1.
