Jerry Jones supported Ezekiel Elliott with public comments on Tuesday.
Elliott has been suspended for six games by the NFL due to an alleged domestic violence incident in July 2016.
"Unfortunately you get confused in this conversation," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday. "Every person that has any sense at all understands domestic violence and abhors it. On the other hand, I've had a lot of experience in this area. For 10 years before I bought the Cowboys I was the head of [a] battered women [organization] of Arkansas. I raised more money and been in more safe houses than a lot of people that talk about it and so it's a terrible problem.
"On the other hand with what we are today and what we're trying to be relative to addressing it in the league, [it] has all kinds of issues and it should. It's a very complicated issue because you have no evidence here. That's all I want to say about it. But it creates quite a convoluted approach by Zeke's representatives and by the league that I really hate is a focus of all of our attention. I do. Even though others would say that the issue needs this kind of focus and you're using the NFL for visibility."
Julian Edelman will miss the entire 2017 season with a torn ACL.
"Julian is a great competitor, works hard, is tough, does all the things that you ask him to do. So I feel badly for him, of course," Bill Belichick said Saturday. " ... We hope that he will have a speedy and complete recovery, but the team will have to move on and compete this season without him. It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is."
Belichick said the team "has to move forward with the resources we have. Unfortunately, we've lost one. An important one. But as a team we still have to move forward and that's what we'll do. That process has already started."
Edelman suffered the injury while running an in-breaking route, beating linebacker Jarrad Davis and catching the ball at Detroit's 29-yard line.
Edelman signed a two-year contract extension through 2019.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have named Blake Bortles their starting quarterback to open the 2017 season.
Bortles started the first and second games of the preseason before Chad Henne started the third game. On Thursday, Henne completed eight of 14 passes for 73 yards and no touchdowns with no interceptions. Bortles completed 12 of 16 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown with an interception.
Bortles was the third overall pick by the Jaguars in 2014 and became their starter in Week 4 that season.
Spencer Ware has been carted off the field during Friday's preseason game with a right knee injury.
Ware took an awkward step right his right leg after catching a 6-yard pass from Alex Smith.
Ware rushed for 921 yards and had another 447 yards receiving last season for the Chiefs.
Ware was ranked in Tier 4 of RealGM's Fantasy Football preview, but he figured to share reps with Kareem Hunt.
Julian Edelman was carted off Friday's preseason game with a knee injury that the New England Patriots fear is a torn ACL.
Edelman appeared to injure his right knee as he planted his foot into the turf to avoid Tavon Wilson and lunged forward.
Edelman walked off the field limping but unassisted.
The Patriots used Brandin Cooks, Chris Hogan and Danny Amendola with Edelman out of the game.
Le'Veon Bell plans on reporting back to the Pittsburgh Steelers before the start of the regular season. Bell is holding out after the two sides were unable to agree upon a long-term contract.
It is not yet clear when Bell will report but he's not expected to miss any games.
Bell will play under the $12.1 million franchise tag in 2017.
Bell is considered in the top tier of running backs by RealGM for fantasy football.
David Johnson adopted a plant-based diet approximately a month ago after watching two food documentaries on Netflix.
Johnson and his wife watched "What the Health" and "Forks Over Knives."
Johnson realized quickly as training camp began in late July that sticking with a strict plant-based diet caused him to lose more weight than he intended. He reported to training camp at 223 pounds, lighter than he had been in the past. Johnson is ranked as the No. 1 pick in fantasy football drafts by RealGM.
"It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be," Johnson said. "I thought it would definitely be hard just because, as Americans, we're taught to eat a whole bunch of meat. It's not even just eating meat, it's the portions. What I've learned is that we're taught eating like 24 ounces of steak is a manly thing, when really you're only supposed to eat 8 to 10 as a portion."
Johnson now eats about six small meals a day instead of the three or four he had when he wasn't following a plant-based diet. Between meals he snacks on nuts, mainly cashews.
"That's another way to get my calories," he said. "Some of that stuff also has protein in it."
Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady have converted to either a completely or partially plant-based diet.

Devonta Freeman is in the NFL's concussion protocol after displaying symptoms on Sunday.
"After taking him inside yesterday where we thought he had heat related (issues), he reported that he had some concussion symptoms," Dan Quinn said, per the Atlanta Journal Constitution. "So, we put him in the protocol for that. He'll be out this week. He may start practicing as we, but we are going to rule him out now."
Freeman could miss the remainder of the preseason.
The Atlanta Falcons recently signed Freeman to a five-year, $41.25 million extension.
