Browns To Part Ways With Josh Gordon

Oct 2, 2016 12:18 PM

The Cleveland Browns will part ways with Josh Gordon.

Gordon is entering a rehabilitation facility, citing a need to "gain full control of my life."

Hue Jackson said earlier Friday that the team will "move on" from Gordon. The source acknowledged that the Browns ultimately plan to cut ties with Gordon, but noted that Jackson's comment was not meant to reflect the team's plans.

Gordon was suspended for the entire 2015 season but was reinstated conditionally on July 25 by commissioner Roger Goodell, though he also was suspended for the first four games of the 2016 season.

Josh Gordon Enters Inpatient Rehab Facility

Sep 30, 2016 11:39 AM

Josh Gordon was set to be reinstated by the NFL to return to play in Week 5 but he's instead entered an inpatient treatment facility.

Statement from Josh Gordon "After careful thought and deep consideration I've decided that I need to step away from pursuing my return to the Browns and my football career to enter an inpatient rehabilitation facility. This is the right decision for me and one that I hope will enable me to gain full control of my life and continue on a path to reach my full potential as a person. I appreciate the support of the NFL, NFLPA, the Browns, my teammates, my agent and the community through this extremely challenging process."

Statement from Executive VP of Football Operations Sashi Brown on Josh Gordon "We support Josh in taking this step to seek additional help and treatment. His singular focus must be on his own health. We want nothing more than for Josh to be successful personally and professionally and will not comment on his status with the organization at this time."

Ameer Abdullah Expected To Miss Remainder Of 2016

Sep 26, 2016 8:59 AM

The Detroit Lions believe Ameer Abdullah will miss the remainder of the 2016 season with a torn ligament in his left foot.

Abdullah injured the foot during the second quarter of last Sunday's 16-15 loss to the Tennessee Titans on a 24-yard run in which he broke multiple tackles.

The Lions placed Abdullah on injured reserve on Wednesday.

Abdullah was Detroit's No. 1 running back, gaining 101 yards on 18 carries this season. He also caught 5 passes for 57 yards and 1 touchdown.

Due to a change in NFL rules for this season, each team can designate one player placed on injured reserve to return later in the season.

With Abdullah out, Theo Riddick becomes Detroit's top running back, with rookie Dwayne Washington and second-year pro Zach Zenner also having roles.

Julio Jones Will Play In Week 3 Despite Calf Injury

Sep 25, 2016 11:45 AM

Julio Jones insists he'll play on Monday Night despite a calf injury.

Jones was held out of practice on Thursday and Friday but returned on Saturday.

"Yes, I'll play Monday night," Jones said. "I wouldn't chance it if I didn't [feel right], if I felt like I was going to overcompensate and something else was going to get tore up or it was going to get worse or anything like that. It's just warming that muscle up, warming up everything, making sure everything is firing properly."

In between reps, Jones was spotted bouncing up and down as if to test and make sure his calf was fine.

"He looked explosive in and out of his breaks,'' Dan Quinn said of Saturday's practice. "He didn't get a lot of turns, but we kind of tried to feature him on the plays that he needed to see. We didn't do it just in the red zone. We did him on third down. We did it on first and second down to see where he was at. So, I'm encouraged.

"That was kind of the plan in the week: Could he do some of the walk-through? And then he kind of made a good turn yesterday and today to say, 'All right, let's give it a shot.' He's somebody that needs to go to really feel it.''

Adrian Peterson To Undergo Meniscus Surgery, Miss 3-4 Months

Sep 23, 2016 7:43 AM

Adrian Peterson has decided to undergo surgery to repair his torn meniscus, forcing him to miss three to four months.

Peterson, who was injured Sunday, told ESPN's Josina Anderson that he has a "bucket handle tear" of the meniscus, which typically has a minimum recovery time of three to four months.

"(I'm) doing it with faith and optimism," Peterson told ESPN of the procedure.

Peterson had been provided with multiple options about how to treat the injury, and he had been waiting to hear back from Dr. James Andrews, who performed extensive surgery on Peterson's knee in 2011, before making his decision.

Peterson slightly twisted his knee at the end of a 5-yard run Sunday against the Packers.

Doctors later found Peterson also has a torn lateral collateral ligament, which will further decrease his odds of returning in 2016.
