Brady Was Open To One-Game Suspension, NFL Would Have Accepted Two

Sep 1, 2015 1:24 PM

Tom Brady was believed to be "open" to serving a one-game suspension for not cooperating with Ted Wells' investigation as part of a potential settlement.

Talks never got far as settlement talks broke down on Monday and Judge Richard Berman informed both sides they were too far apart to continue.

Brady maintained his position that he would not accept the findings of the Wells Report and was unwilling to accept responsibility for his potential role in the deflation of footballs.

The NFL appeared set to offer to shorten Brady's four-game suspension by two games, provided he accept some responsibility.

DeMarco Murray Doesn't Expect To Rotate Series With Ryan Mathews

Aug 27, 2015 12:26 PM

DeMarco Murray doesn't expect to alternate series with Ryan Mathews in the Philadelphia Eagles' backfield.

"Murray gets all the headlines and attention, but I'm even more intrigued to see what the role is for Mathews and Sproles," NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah told us in June. "... I kind of worry about those secondary runners when you get a carry here, a carry there. But the Eagles with their tempo, (Mathews is) going to get a full series and he's going to get a chance to get into a rhythm."

Chip Kelly's uptempo offense lends itself to alternating drives to keep fresh legs on the field.

"I don't think it will be alternating series," Murray said, per Corey Seidman of CSN Philly. "But (Mathews) is a quality back, great guy, works extremely hard. I'm sure he'll get his fair share of touches. But I don't know how the rotation will be yet, we haven't touched on it."

Jordy Nelson Has Torn ACL In Right Knee

Aug 26, 2015 12:58 PM

Jordy Nelson has a torn ACL in his right knee but everything else is in tact.

Nelson will miss the remainder of the season for the Green Bay Packers.

"It was determined that WR Jordy Nelson sustained a significant right knee injury in yesterday's game at Pittsburgh," the Packers said in a statement. "He will miss the remainder of the season."

Nelson will need reconstructive surgery but should be back for the start of the 2016 season.

Nelson appeared to land awkwardly on his left knee and not the right knee. Nelson limped off the field under his own power.

"It's difficult to lose a guy like that in a meaningless game," Aaron Rodgers said after the game.

Aaron Rodgers: I'm Back Playing The Way I Like To Play

Aug 21, 2015 5:59 PM

Aaron Rodgers feels recovered from a calf injury that slowed him down toward the end of last season.

"I'm back to playing the way I like to play, which is to extend plays when I can and get rid of it when I need to," Rodgers said Thursday, via ESPN.com.

"(If) I have an opportunity to escape the pocket and create a different angle, then I'm going to. It's nice to be back. I trained hard this offseason to keep the speed and keep my body in shape where I can have the endurance to have multiple plays like that in a game. And it definitely adds a different element to our offense."

Rodgers' mobility and accuracy makes him the NFL's most productive quarterback.

Rodgers added he has "zero inhibitions" when it comes to moving on the field.

Kelvin Benjamin Out For Season With Torn ACL

Aug 20, 2015 12:45 PM

Kelvin Benjamin will miss the entire 2015 season with a torn ACL in his left knee.

Benjamin suffered the non-contact injury during one-on-one drills Wednesday.

"Obviously, we feel awful for Kelvin," general manager Dave Gettleman said. "He’s worked tremendously hard to put himself in a position to have a strong year. We’re confident he will attack his surgery and rehab with the same determination he has met all challenges before."

Benjamin was one of the top performers throughout training camp, and he was poised to build on an impressive rookie season in which he set team rookie records for receptions (73), yards (1,008) and touchdowns (9).

Bowles: Ameer Abdullah Has Barry Sanders Quickness

Aug 14, 2015 9:08 PM

Todd Bowles compared Detroit Lions' running back Ameer Abdullah to Barry Sanders after their Thursday preseason game.

"He looked just like he did in college," Bowles said of the Lions second-round pick in this year's draft. "He's quick as a cat. He's about as quick as Barry Sanders. I'm not saying he is Barry but he's a good running back.

"He made us miss today."

With the ball on the Lions' 23-yard line, he took a handoff from Kellen Moore and headed toward the right sideline before cutting back at the hashmarks and bursting through a hole for a 45-yard gain.

Arian Foster will likely need to undergo surgery for a groin injury he suffered during the Houston Texans' first padded camp practice.

Foster likely will miss the start of the regular season. He could be placed on short-term injured reserve, which would allow the Texans to bring him back to practices after Week 6 and into a game after Week 8.

Alfred Blue took over some of Foster's first team reps in his absence.
