C.J. Anderson Entering Broncos' Training Camp As Top RB

Jun 16, 2015 12:45 PM

C.J. Anderson will begin training camp as No. 1 on the Denver Broncos' running back depth chart ahead of Montee Ball.

"We're right where we're at. Obviously C.J., that's in a lot of ways his spot to hang on to," coach Gary Kubiak said Monday, via ESPN. "I think that Montee has had a great offseason. I think Ronnie (Hillman) has had a really good offseason. I think it's very competitive. You never know about the backs until you put the pads on. I think C.J. has worked extremely hard. Coming off of last year he deserves that opportunity and I think he's getting ready for that opportunity. But he knows he's being pushed very hard."

Anderson has impressed the new coaches and they love the film he put on tape late last season.

"I think in this league as coaches you look for guys that can be three-down players," Kubiak said. "When you have two-down players, that's fine, but it's just very difficult in the game standpoint and getting them the ball and calling the game when you're not out there all the time. He has a knack for protection, he's very bright in protection. So he's a guy that's not going to leave the field -- as much as he can stand. And that's what the great ones do, so that gives him an excellent chance."

Vikings Want To Give Adrian Peterson More Balanced Workload

Jun 12, 2015 2:41 PM

The Minnesota Vikings would like to give Adrian Peterson a more balanced workload this season.

The Vikings are also high on Jerick McKinnon, which could help preserve the legs of Peterson.

Peterson's carries may not decrease as much as his snaps.

“I think it’s more about snaps per game, because that’s what you have to watch in regard to the wear and tear,” Wilson said, via NFL Media. “How he’ll last for the season is the snaps per game, not the carries or attempts per game, because that comes with the territory. He’s going to get his amount of touches that he gets, it’s the other snaps and plays that will determine how successful he is at lasting during the season and being powerful, strong, aggressive and explosive.”

Adrian Peterson Unlikely To Receive Any Preseason Carries

Jun 10, 2015 9:37 PM

Adrian Peterson is not expected to receive any preseason carries this year.

Peterson played in just one game in 2014 due to his child abuse suspension.

"I probably don't see that, no," Mike Zimmer told the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Wednesday when asked if Peterson could take preseason snaps. "We're talking in June, so you can't hold me to it, but he's carried the ball a lot (in his eight-year career) and he's going to continue to carry the ball a lot. He'll get plenty of looks and reps in practice."

Latavius Murray Has Chance For 'Huge Year'

Jun 10, 2015 1:23 PM

Latavius Murray will enter the 2015 season as the No. 1 running back for the Oakland Raiders.

He "has a chance at a huge year" in new coordinator Bill Musgrave's offense, one team source told ESPN's Adam Caplan, "because he is smart, physically a freak."

Murray came to life down the stretch during his second NFL season, pumping out all but 11 of his 424 yards over the final six games of 2014. His 5.17 yards per carry trailed only four other backs across the entire league.

Odell Beckham Continues To Have Right Hamstring Issue

Jun 8, 2015 6:46 PM

Odell Beckham Jr. continues to be sidelined with a nagging right hamstring problem.

Beckham started having issues with his left hamstring this time last year and that problem eventually cost him all of training camp and the first four games of his rookie season.

"I think he's just trying to be smart and doesn't want to push this thing any further than he has to," Eli Manning said. "After what we went through last year, we don't want him missing training camp or any games next season."

Beckham was on the field with his teammates Monday, but didn't take part in practice.
