DeMarco Murray Likely To Return This Week

Oct 13, 2014 4:09 AM

DeMarco Murray will likely play for the first time since spraining his left foot on Oct. 14.

The Cowboys play the Eagles in Dallas.

“We’ll see how he responds today,” Jerry Jones said on KRLD-FM (105.3). “But the key day was yesterday. He came back from the day before, which was his first day out. Usually that is a leveling-off or setback day if you have the effects of your first day back.

“He didn’t have that. He practiced well. We’ll see how he does these next couple of days. But it looks like we’ll have him.”

Andre Brown To Receive Giants' Goal-Line Carries

Oct 31, 2014 3:42 PM

Andre Brown is receiving the goal-line carries for the New York Giants as he has a size advantage over David Wilson and Ahmad Bradshaw.

"I'm the biggest back, that's basically what it is," Brown said. "Be a big back and go in there short yardage and goal line and go there and make sure I get short-yardage situations. I go in there and just want to stay consistent and go out there and produce."

Adrian Peterson Now Avoiding Meaningless Contact

Jul 29, 2014 12:18 PM

Adrian Peterson has learned how to manage contact as his NFL career has progressed.

Since returning from knee surgery, Peterson is more conscious of taking meaningless contact.

"There's different situations that might come up in the game," Peterson said. "Third-and-8, you got four guys pursuing me, I can go out of bounds on that play. Third-and-3, and I got to grind it and stick it up in there, that's exactly what I'm going to do."

Falcons Becoming Defensive About Turner Questions

Aug 4, 2014 10:58 AM

Michael Turner has appeared slow and ineffective this season for the Atlanta Falcons.

Mike Smith became defensive on Monday when asked if Turner was being phased out in order to give more carries to Jacquizz Rodgers.

"No, it doesn’t,’’ Smith said. “Guys, again, I think we’ve been very transparent from the very beginning. I’ve been saying this since April that you’re not going to look up at the end of the season and see Michael Turner having 300 carries. That’s not the type of football team we are. We may have been that type of team when we first got here, but we’re a completely different football team and I think our statistics and our ratios define that. We’re going to be an offense that we are going to move the ball around to our different assets and we’ve got a lot of assets. Michael Turner is an asset as well as Jacquizz Rodgers and as well as Jason Snelling in our backfield.’’

Jets To Use Three-RB Rotation

Aug 9, 2014 6:10 AM

The New York Jets are moving away from Shonn Greene as their primary running back and will instead rotate him with Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight.

"I think it is the ideal scenario for us because we have three very capable backs," Rex Ryan said. "Instead of just throwing one guy in there all the time to take all the hits and all the protections and the routes and all that. I think when you have three guys coming in, I think that's what the league is going to. You don't have that guy that necessarily does it all every snap anymore the way you used to with a Walter Payton or whatever. You kind of divide that role up. I think for us it's good."

The Jets were able to split up the work Sunday with all three backs active. Powell had 28 snaps, Greene had 26 and McKnight finished with seven.
